Between the rivers the Lek and the Amsterdam Rhine Canal in the Utrecht countryside you will find the Kromme Rijn region. Here you cycle past beautiful villages, castles and fertile orchards. This area mainly produces pears and apples. Stop along the way for delicious farm ice cream and fresh fruit.

This 35 kilometer blossom cycle route is suitable for every level. The best time to explore this area is in the spring when the blossoms are in bloom from March to early May. It is also definitely worth coming back in the second half of summer and early autumn because then it is harvest time!

The route starts and ends in Wijk Bij Duurstede. It is also possible to start at a different point in, for example, Houten.

Aptly named sculpture 'The Cool Pear'. A photo or selfie with this image if you are in the pear and apple region of the Netherlands cannot be missed along the thematic blossom cycle route.

A beautiful green and peaceful environment, with the country house as the centrepiece. The late medieval dovecote and the country house form an atmospheric whole

View of the Nederrijn

Highlight • Viewpoint

From here you have a beautiful view of the Lower Rhine.

The Lower Rhine was created in the last ice age and is a branch of the Rhine. The river has played an important role in the history of the region, including as a trade route and source of energy.

Kasteel Duurstede

Highlight • Castle

Duurstede Castle is one of the oldest castles in the Netherlands and is located on an island in the middle of a park, where you can walk over the moat via a fairytale drawbridge. The castle is mainly rented out for weddings and events. You can therefore only visit it by appointment. The terrace is open every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., if there is no event taking place at that time.

The tour began early in the morning with very humid temperatures. 😨 The route went along fields and avenues. With a panoramic view of the landscape lined with countless fruit plantations. You also pass by nice little towns with sights and stately homes.🏰
