Attention: Unterer Bockhartsee is currently under construction. On weekdays you have to walk 1 hour around the lake instead of 10 minutes to the Bockhartseehütte. Bockhartseehütte Closed on Wednesdays.
After a long absence from hiking, we started again today. A first ascent led from Sportgastein through a small forest up to the Bockharthütte on the Lower Bockhartsee. On the way up there is a cool photo spot with a large Austria flag with an impressive view of Naßfeld. The Bockhartdrache is also located at the Bockharthütte. Now the landscape becomes Karl. The ascent to the Miesbichlscharte is similarly steep, but with a bit of skill it is quite pleasant. The wind is a bit stronger on the saddle, but it is definitely worth taking a break here. The way towards the Zitterauer Tisch is characterized by scree fields. Concentration and sturdy shoes are the order of the day. Nevertheless, the path is quite relaxed as it goes up and down again and again without a great gradient. On the way around the Zitterauer Tisch you will pass an interesting rock formation that other hikers call "Lama bird". From then on, the way to the Stubnerkogel is more relaxed.
Take the bus to Sportgastein, cross Lake Bockhartsee to the Miesbiclscharte ridge, then cross the Ortbergscharte ridge to the Stubnerkogel mountain station. Take the gondola down.
Today, our hiking group from the German Alpine Club (DAV) Duisburg took the Stubnerkogel cable car up to the top and first walked to a lookout point with a magnificent panoramic view 🏞 . In perfect sunny weather ☀️, we then hiked below the Zittau Table, 2463 m, along a hillside path with great views. The terrain was quite rocky, and hikers should be sure-footed and have a good head for heights. Finally, we reached the Miesbichlscharte ridge, 2237 m. From there, we descended steadily to the Lower Bockartsee, which we caught sight of on the descent. We ended the tour at the Valeriehaus with a cool drink 🍹🍻
