Trail Reviews

Astrid
May 6, 2023, Von der Metzebacher Höhe über Spangenberg nach Melsungen

Pre-hike for the two night hikes on June 2nd and July 8th. In the best hiking weather, 3 motivated hiking guides went from the Metzebacher Höhe via Spangenberg to Melsungen.

Translated by Google

With a great group we went yesterday from the Metzebacher Höhe through the night to Melsungen. From Melsungen we started together by bus through the beautiful Gudetal to the Metzebacher Höhe, where a nice group with bratwurst and drinks was already waiting for us. After a delicious refreshment - we still had a lot planned 😊 - and the explanation of the route, we walked to the Cinema Natura and enjoyed the wonderful evening atmosphere and the fantastic view of the Alheimer and the Knüllköpfchen. Then the hike started and we walked past the Dreikönigsstein and many Ars-Natura works of art in the direction of Spangenberg. The legend was briefly told at Herzblumenplatz, the night was wonderfully warm and we were lucky enough to see many glowworms. At midnight we arrived at the market square in Spangenberg and were greeted by the knights at the Liebenbach fountain. They also told us the legend and sad love story of Kuno and Else, who adorn the Liebenbach fountain. Then there were chilled and delicious cocktails from the Cocktail Taxi and then a coffee break with cookies, muesli bars and fruit in the Katharinenstube. So we were well prepared for the approx. 3 km long ascent to the Henner-Sostmann hut. Once at the top, the worst was over and we walked - at still tropical temperatures - comfortably on the high trail towards Melsungen. In the meantime, the moon also appeared and we were able to really enjoy this route again without artificial light. In the meantime, the conversations became fewer and some fought with tiredness or let their thoughts run free. During the ascent to the globe, everyone woke up again and entered the summit book there. Now it went comfortably downhill towards the finish and we only took a short break to listen to the birds, which were now slowly waking up. The dawn of the day with the awakening of nature is always a very special moment. We reached Melsungen at around 5 a.m. via the Bartenwetzer Bridge and were able to enjoy a nice breakfast together at the end! I would like to thank all participants very much 💚! It was a wonderful hike with lovely people, nice conversations and many beautiful moments and I'm already looking forward to the next night hikes in 2024!
