Inspired by a tour by @Schepper, thank you very much!, we started today from Schwarzenberg on Bartenwetzer Weg B6. With beautiful views of the Fulda Valley from time to time, we first walked along the edge of the forest. I particularly like the part of the path that is lined with birch trees. Then - as so often - wider gravel paths we came to Wenzel's Wieschen, a pretty rest area in a forest clearing. Also of interest is the gusset above Kehrenbach, where two old trade routes meet, the Sälzerweg and the Schusterweg. There is also an older Ars Natura artwork there, 'Masses of Rabbits in Colored Measures', but my two 🐕🐕 🐕🐕 are not interested in these rabbits... 🤣 In contrast to that, they got excited when a real rabbit hopped in front of us quite persistently. 😅 Two dogs then came storming up at the Rose Zoo, which - in a friendly manner - greeted Jette and Barney, but then trolled back to their master. Somewhat surprisingly, the B6 then ended on the ICE route, despite the signposts still there. We really liked the idyllic path, which then alternatively led through the Höhbachtal, even if it was quite steep up the mountain again before we reached the path back to the cars.
Today, in cold but wonderful hiking weather, we walked the Bartenwetzer circular hiking trail B6 near Melsungen. A beautiful, varied trail that offers interesting views. The Melsungen Christmas market is atmospheric, but we would have liked a bit more choice in terms of food.
We wanted to get some fresh air before the house fills up at Easter. With a cloudy sky and a few raindrops, we arrived at the “New Cemetery” in Melsungen and started uphill. We followed the Sälzerweg, which was still paved here, and which soon brought us out of the residential area, past the white bench, and into the nearby edge of the forest. Here we had to decide on a direction of the circular route and chose the clockwise direction. Passing the Schwarzenberg sports field, we made a small detour to the ICE tunnel portals before the path led us north above Rohrenfurth. After the Rose Zoo, we continued uphill on long, straight farm roads until we finally met the Sälzerweg again at the Zwickel. The ascent was done and we turned south again. After a short break, during which we enjoyed the view of Kirchhof, we hiked the Sälzerweg further in a southerly direction, first on wide farm roads to the remains of the crowned oak, and from there on a beautiful path through the forest. Behind the Konrad Hoffmann hut we met the path we had already come on and used a side MTB single trail as a welcome change. The Bartenwetzer path B6 has some beautiful routes to offer and nature is showing its best side at the moment. On long sections, however, you hike straight ahead, uphill and downhill past many impact areas that can be traced back to the bark beetle damage. Overall, we were quite satisfied with our “Good Friday Tour”.
Because of the weather conditions (snow/rain) we decided to go for a ride on wider forest roads today under the motto "The main thing is to get out". It went over Wenzels Wieschen to the crown oak and then over the Zwickel to the Rose Zoo. From there take other paths back to the crown oak and back along the Sälzerweg.
