This moderate loop tour is estimated to take approximately 3 hours and 43 minutes to complete. This duration is for the hiking time itself and does not include stops for breaks, photos, or enjoying the huts.
The terrain varies, starting with a mix of panoramic paths and forest roads. You'll encounter natural porphyry paths with roots and stones, especially on uphill sections. After passing Baita Cason / Cason Hut, some routes involve a descent into forested areas. Towards Brogles Hut, the path often traverses grassy terrain and alpine pastures. While generally well-maintained, some sections can be rugged with loose scree and gravel.
Rated as 'moderate', this loop tour is suitable for hikers with a reasonable level of fitness and stamina. While the broader UNESCO Geotrail has difficult sections, this specific loop is more manageable. Families with a good level of stamina should find it enjoyable, offering spectacular Dolomite scenery without extreme difficulty.
The route offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Dolomites. You'll pass Baita Cason / Cason Hut and reach Brogles Hut, which is nestled in an alpine pasture. A major highlight is the View of the Geisler Peaks from Raschötz, offering idyllic vistas of the graceful Geisler peaks (Odle Group) and Seceda. You'll also see the mighty Sella massif and Sassolungo.
A common way to access the starting point for this loop is by using the Rasciesa funicular from Ortisei. This makes the trailhead easily accessible. Parking would typically be available near the funicular station in Ortisei. This option helps avoid some initial uphill sections and provides a comfortable start to the hike.
The best time to hike this loop is generally during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn (typically June to September). During this period, the alpine meadows are in bloom, and the weather conditions are most favorable for hiking, offering clear views and accessible trails.
Yes, the Puez-Odle Nature Park, where this trail is located, generally allows dogs. However, they must be kept on a leash to protect wildlife and ensure the safety and comfort of other hikers. Always remember to clean up after your dog.
No, there are typically no specific permits or entrance fees required for hiking on the trails within the Puez-Odle Nature Park. However, it's essential to respect the park's regulations, such as staying on marked paths and not disturbing wildlife or plants, as it is a protected UNESCO World Heritage site.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the Dolomites World Heritage Geotrail 11, MTB 8: Sot a la Odles, and Troi Paian. You might also briefly encounter parts of the Raida dl Resciesa Variante and Adolf Munkel Weg - Via delle Odle.
This section is notable for being part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for its unique geological history and stunning landscapes. It offers iconic Dolomite views, including the majestic Geisler peaks, and provides a more moderate hiking option compared to some other parts of the broader Geotrail, making the spectacular scenery accessible to a wider range of hikers.
Nice tour, unfortunately the view was temporarily obstructed by clouds. I'm an MTB rider myself, so if the authorities block paths for us, my fellow campaigners should stick to them. Sure trail #5 is great for descending, but when it's wet the wheels do a lot of damage.
This morning we took the bus to Ortisei. There with the mountain railway up to Rasciesa. Turned a nice round there. To the middle station of the Seceda Bahn, from there back down to Ortisei. Then a little stroll through the town... 🙃🙂😊
