This is the rough part of Snowdonia. Not ‘trolleys in the canal’ rough, but a craggy, vegetated, wild kind of rugged. Stick to the paths, such as the Roman Steps …

Actually more likely to be of medieval origin as a Packhorse trail, but well worth a visit - and read about the legends at:

Trail Reviews

Alex Foxfield
October 7, 2023, The Rhinogydd

The Rhinogydd. Yes, very good. But possibly overrated. Spent Saturday exploring Eryri’s Rinogydd range, taking in the summits of Rhinog Fawr and Rhinog Fach. North Wales’ oldest mountains, the rock these ancient peaks are made from is around 500 million years old. They’ve seen a range of Himalayan immensity rise and fall here in that time. Remarkable. Now, the Rhinogydd get a lot of hype from outdoorsy writers and people involved in the outdoors in general. Don’t get me wrong, they’re lovely little mountains but they don’t blow me away like the Glyderau, the Snowdon massif or Cadair Idris do. I think, personally, that they get the amount of praise they do because they’re so quiet in comparison. Happy to be proved wrong but I’d say they’re Eryri’s most overrated mountains.
