The landlord of the nearby Wildkogel Alm had a skidoo accident in 2017 - this chapel was built in his memory.

Geisl Hochalm

A brilliant Alm to stop off. Great view of the slopes and the surrounding mountains and best of all with a non-alcoholic wheat beer and a really good Wiener Schnitzel.
Great staff super friendly and informal ;)

June 9, 2023, Wildkogel 🏔 oder wie sie wieder nach Hause 🏨 kommt 🚡🚞🚍

Today is my last day of hiking 🥾 The luggage is already moving out of the hotel. The car 🚗 will be parked at the destination of the bike tour. On the way to the parking lot I make a detour to the Wildkogel. You can go up with the Smaragdbahn 🚡, free with the Sommercard 👍 Up here at 2101 meters I climb the summit 🏔 with 2224 meters. Hardly any people are here yet, early birds 🐦 have it quieter. Wonderful view up here 🏔🏔🏔 Wonderful view of the 3000m peaks. A few paragliders 🪂 do their rounds in the sky. The descent from the Wildkogel is tough, seems to never end 😵 The pine forest is very nice on the way 🌲🌲🌲 The forest road goes up again. In the meantime, many people are out and about, especially with children. No extinguishing water in the Wildkogelhaus today, it's quite fresh up here. Coffee ☕️ and an apricot 🍑 curd strudel be granted to me. As an excuse, I can say that I didn't book half-board and I'll be on the road for quite a while 😊 The curd cheese strudel is fresh and fluffy. A real surprise for such a big mountain gastronomy. With vanilla sauce for €6.40 away-to-schmakofatzen. It's too restless here for longer stays. So on with the daily schedule.... stop ‼️ what now, the train 🚡 is on its lunch break 🙈 yes, I had read something like that somewhere.... I would have pinched my consumption... pretty stupid 🙄 The train 🚡 was still running when I went in. Something is coming out of the cloud outside 🌧 at 10 degrees 🥶 Then arrived at the bottom 23 degrees and sun 🌤 Let's go to Zell am See, park the car 🚗. I then take the Pinzgau local train back 🚞 which unfortunately only goes to Niedernsill. From there it's SEV 🚍 In 2021 there was damage to the track due to flooding, underwashing and such..... That was 2 years ago.... I thought the Ösis were faster there and therefore fell in my respect 😳 I'm coming in very entertaining conversation with a gentleman and learn that they do exactly the same nonsense in Austria as in Germany. When it comes to rail, you don't just want to repair it, you want to make it better...that's why it takes time....Something like feasibility studies, planning approval procedures and quarrels with environmental organizations are just as common here as they are with us....in Germany learning means... it doesn't get any better 🙈 Back to the way back. Works like clockwork.... SEV 🚍 is ready and takes me almost to the front door. Free with summer card 👍 Tomorrow we'll continue cycling again 🚵‍♂️. Everything is thought out and prepared. Nothing beats a good plan... except maybe plan B. But so far everything has worked according to plan A. So just keep it up ‼️

The panoramic trail at the Wildkogel Arena is a real treat... with views of the Venediger Group 🏔️ and towards the Wilder Kaiser ⛰️

Beautiful hike that is definitely worth it! ☺️ I took the Smaragdbahn up. The view from up there was really great and there were very few people on the way - which of course could also be due to the time of year 😀

A pleasant short hike with a magnificent panoramic view. At first, we were quite alone on the way to the Wildbergkogel summit due to the early hour, but then we were caught up with a large number of people. Well, they only wanted the short climb to the summit cross, so the further hiking trail was reserved for us. Although it's a beautiful circular trail, hardly anyone was inclined to take it. So much the better for us.
