Hiking

This route of about 11 kilometers takes you through the southern part of the Bergherbos and is very varied. Along the way you will pass trenches and other remains from both the First and Second World Wars. The route starts at the parking lot at 't Peeske.

Shortly afterwards you will pass the OERRR Bergherbos nature playground. If you are out with kids this is a nice place to stop. Then you continue walking through the forest. There are many coniferous trees in the Bergherbos, especially in the thirties, many pine trees were sown. Subsequently, other coniferous trees were also planted, such as the European larch, the Norway spruce and the Douglas fir. On the edges of the conifer plots you will find many beautiful old oaks.

After about 3 kilometers you will come to a reconstruction of the land fortifications from the First World War. You can still clearly see the trenches here. Only a few hundred meters away you can also see the remains of a blown-up bunker.

Another nice point to stop during the route is the lookout tower on the Hulzenberg. When you have climbed to the top, you are at a height of 21 meters and you have a great view of the area.

At 't Peeske, right at the start of the walk, you can enjoy a snack and a drink before and/or after the walk. From the terrace you have a beautiful view. From April to October, the site at 't Peeske is also a nature campsite where you can spend the night.

OERRR Bergherbos Nature Playground

Highlight • Rest Area

Nice nature playground of OERRR at the Bergherbos. Ideal for children in the company who may need a nice break. Building huts, playing with water, crawling through the badger tunnel, it's all possible! Please note: dogs are not allowed on the playground itself.

During World War I, this land fortification was supposed to protect the Ruhr area. It was built back in 1922. Bunkers were blown up, the trenches are still clearly visible throughout the area today.

An atmospheric path away from the main paths. There is also a small stream and if you like photography, you can take beautiful atmospheric pictures here.
