This mountain biking loop takes you through the diverse Finalese hinterland to the Le Manie plateau and past ancient Roman Bridges. The trail covers 13.9 miles (22.4 km) with an elevation gain of 1659 feet (506 metres), offering a mix of natural forest trails, rocky sections, and loose dirt. You will find panoramic views of the Ligurian Sea, especially from Le Manie, and ride through Mediterranean maquis and dense forests. Expect a moderate ride that typically takes about 2 hours and 7 minutes to complete, requiring good fitness and advanced riding skills. This route is comparable to STS S2 difficulty, featuring both flowy and technical segments.
To plan your visit, be aware that this mountain bike route is near Finale Ligure, a renowned destination for mountain biking. The varied terrain includes significant singletrack and natural paths, alongside some unpaved roads and asphalt sections. While the research does not specify trailhead access or parking details, it is part of a well-established network in the area. Given its moderate difficulty and technical sections, it is best enjoyed by experienced riders.
What makes this trail particularly special are its historical and scenic features. You will pass by several ancient Roman bridges along the Val Ponci, such as Ponte delle Fate and Ponte Muto, which date back to the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. The route also connects to the Le Manie plateau, an area famous for its varied terrain, incredible sea views, and for hosting major mountain biking events like the 24h of Finale. This trail is a great way to experience the rich history and stunning landscapes of the Finale Ligure region.

We stopped our bike exploration tour yesterday due to the high temperatures and quickly moved to the "cool" sea. Today the temperatures are more bearable and we got back on the saddle. Today's tour deliberately does not lead far into the hinterland to the well-known and well-used trails. Our route therefore has slightly less well-known trails, but is no less beautiful. The Bricchetto, the Piaccia delle Tane and the Arma Trail in particular are great and flowy to ride. The finale with the "Briga Destra" trail is tough, though. In my opinion, it is not a continuous S1, because it has many passages that are worthy of S2. We have been spared flat tires so far, but today I got one at the end of the "Briga Destra" 😬. No problem, changing the tire is easy ... but unfortunately I had the wrong pump with me. So I walked to Finale Ligure to the nearest bike shop and had it repaired for 15€ 😅. All's well that ends well 👍.
Just to clarify: I'm not afraid to sway, even at the start of the trail season, and my fearless Luigi isn't afraid to do anything that forces me to dismount today, and he's mastering everything that forces me to dismount today, quite admirably 😎. Le Manie is always a good choice for the first day in Finale, especially when, like today, the ☁️ clouds are hanging low in the hinterland. One after the other... we opt for the scenic uphill along the coastal side and several sections of the 24-hour track. Incidentally, trail #1 on the Finale map; this is where it all began! We add a few variations, such as the Bricchetto with its fabulous view of the coast. The first downhill afterward already makes me a bit nervous 🙈, and it continues like this for quite a while. Things only get a bit better on the flowing trails towards the coast. As part of my annual Finale bucket list, the unique, winding Toboga Trail is a must today. We earn it with a tough trail climb. Very cool on the Stromrad 😁. And then, finally, the Toboga. Freshly shaped and in great condition. Thanks to the trail builders 🫶🫶🫶! A blast, even if I've cruised down it more smoothly. From Ferrin, we take the Ponti Romani descent. It's now raining, and the rocky sections in the upper area are quite slippery in places, and further down, the mud begins. We bypass Verzi above on a nameless trail that requires technical uphill skills in the first half. Unfortunately, I left it at home today 🙄. Things aren't going quite as smoothly on the final Briga destra either. Simply not my best trail day today 🤷🏻♀️. Never mind! Keep your fingers crossed for better weather; hopefully, with more practice, the flow will return. In the end, the speedy Luigi has 45 minutes less movement time on his Garmin than I do 🤔. I can't explain that at all 😂.
Le Manie is simply part of it! This year we saved this tour for the last day, not so clever because the bear is raging up here on a beautiful Sunday. Not so wise to dawdle in the morning, as the sun is already beating down on your brain at 10 a.m. as you pedal up the panoramic road 🥵. Oh well... Some of the trails we rode today are part of the 24-hour course, the views are phenomenal and most of the time it's pretty easy to get there. Le Manie is a kind of high plateau, once you're at the top it's always up and down. I'm a little listless today, but after the last few meters of altitude the Toboga with its beautiful residents is tempting 😁. A great downhill, I love it 😍. Then just carry on, stop at la Grotta, finally take a look at the grotto and then go down to Ponti Romani. I think it's a beautiful section. Before Verzi we decide to call it a day and save the Briga destra for next time. We simply feel more like a cold beer at the beach bar than any further effort 🤣. After all, we are on vacation 🤩
Finally up again to Le Manie and surfed a bit on the 24h trail. Are going late and it was pretty hot up there. Down over the well-known descent with a stop at Gasthof La Grotta, over the Roman road and the La Briga Nuova Trail. One of the easiest tours I've known in Finale. Can of course be expanded as required! Tia, and unfortunately that was it again with the final. 🥰 Ci vediamo!
Finally a splendid and fun day, very good surface apart from some residual mud puddles on the descent towards the Roman Bridges and a lush growth of bushes and brambles in some places. On some stretches, however, they were cleaning and clearing the path. The Toboggan is a little worse, broken down and with scattered boulders, compared to the last time we did it. To finish, a good mixed fry at the Renza restaurant.
Dropped me off🙆♀️ ☀️. A few days of Finale Ligure. Never been there. The first day was great. Did two trails. 24h DH and Briga Destra (Who has been here before.) 24h was a good choice for the first day. Anyone who rides a bit more demanding single trails from time to time will do well. Also fantastic scenery. A two places are more difficult. Can you get off? The last piece after a blatant S3 ascent, which I and others had to push in parts, is S 2. But also totally doable. The Trail Briga Destra is indicated in Komoot with S1. Partly true, but partly not. Overall much more demanding than 24h. Time is total time with breaks. HM were with Garmin etrex 30 770hm. I have no idea what Komoot is always doing there. Ciao from Bella Italia 😁
