Sandy soils across the heath Cool forest passages Footbridges over lakes And magnificent heather blooms in August
Starts in Brunssum at Restaurant Schrieversheide https://restaurantschrieversheide.nl/ Parking lot 🅿️ 100 meters away! [Schaapskooiweg] Another lovely Monday morning walk. The route "Dark Green NM3" I downloaded it on KOMOOT*, which was actually a good thing. The colors weren't all present on the markers, and the dark green was difficult to see (I have trouble distinguishing the colors). • In Belgium, they use colors associated with a visual symbol, which are much easier to recognize! * More information about this route: https://www.visitzuidlimburg.nl/te-doen-in-zuid-limburg/routes-in-zuid-limburg/detail/brunssummerheide-groene-tour-nm3-brunssum-/60025/ More Brunssumerheide walks: https://www.visitzuidlimburg.nl/zoekresultaten/?q=brunssemerheide This walking route through the Brunssummerheide is many walks in one. Whether you're in the mood for cool coniferous forests, fragrant purple heather, silvery sandy plains, or sparkling springs and pools, you'll find them all in this expansive area between Landgraaf, Heerlen, and Brunssum. The black posts with dark green aluminum bands will guide you on your tour through the diversity of this beautiful nature reserve. https://vimeo.com/723376095?fl=pl&fe=vl 1001 colors, species, and stories "The largest heathland in Limburg continues to impress me. Despite the threats from the immediate surroundings of this nature reserve. The abundant "red" of the buildings and the "gray" of the roads form a horseshoe around the natural "green" and beautiful "purple" of the Brunssummerheide. Hundreds of hectares of purple heathland. Grazed by an industrious flock of sheep. All sorts of small and large waterholes formed by the hand of Mother Nature or man. Mystical raised bogs with iron-rich spring water and rare plants. Dark coniferous forests where firemen once roamed. Deciduous forests with countless plant and animal species. A landscape without straight lines and a rich cultural history with traces dating back to prehistoric times. Every path is different, the landscape a history book. Unique, to be proud of." are." As always, Soraya led the long-distance hikers and Rimo the shorter ones. In pleasant temperatures, we enjoyed the heather blooming and finished with a snack at the Schrieversheide Visitors' Centre.
Very nice walk over and around the Brunssumerheide. We followed the dark green walk.
Today I hiked the green route through the Brunsummerheide. A lovely mix of forest paths, heathland, and the silver sand quarry. Here, there's a beautiful view of an old mine/waste heap and also a view into the quarry. Many short climbs and descents along the way.
Dark green route natural monuments. First part very beautiful, then unfortunately a large part on paved road and through urban area. Around the NP instead of through it. Not recommended in our opinion.
The Brunssummer Heide is extremely versatile and varied in terms of nature and paths/trails. My tip: Brunssummer Heide - just do it 😃🥾👌👍
A beautiful hiking area. Unfortunately, by the end of September there was no sign of the blooming heather anymore. What a pity. We'll be back in August!
