Nice MTB acclimatization tour in the Aosta Valley. Today we traveled to the Aosta Valley for a long weekend to experience a few nice mountain bike days. Because my buddy has little bike experience, we concentrate on easier trails with nice views. After all, the Aosta Valley has a wonderful mountain backdrop and even a view of the impressive Mont Blanc. While browsing through the trail fund of Komoot, Trailforks and Ride.ch, I came across the Mont Blanc mountain. In the Aosta Valley, 20 minutes' drive from the pretty Roman town of Aosta. In other words, the generic or substitute for the "big mountain". Because that sounds so unreal, I planned the first tour up there. Not too long, not too many meters in altitude with a five-kilometer-long S2 trail. The best conditions for getting started. The start should take place in the town of Le Buillet. According to Komoot, there is a car park there. However, there was a driving ban on access. Above, on the mountain road, there are a few small viewing points where you can park your car. From here, you cycle up to the "little" Mont Blanc on paved ground. Little asphalt, lots of gravel and even more tractor paths are pleasant to ride on. However, there are some very steep sections with gradients of over 22%. So you really work up a sweat, especially when the outside temperature is 32°C, like today. Most of the uphill runs through the shady forest, so that's no problem at all. You can't reach the summit by bike. The last 20-30 meters of altitude are climbed on foot. There is a small hut at the bottom where you can tie your bike to the fence. The view from the summit is fantastic. It's a strange feeling to stand on Mont Blanc and admire Mont Blanc in the not too far distance. Physically, this only works at the speed of light; here it works perfectly in slow motion :-) The downhill is not very difficult. The S2 classification is perfect. There are a few key points and the path is mostly quite exposed. You should therefore have no inhibitions about riding on a narrow path across the sometimes extremely steep slope. The switchbacks are exciting. They require some technical knowledge, then you can ride them all. There are many of them. If you have to get off all the time, you won't have any fun here. The round was very nice and quite relaxed. I can recommend it to anyone who isn't afraid of heights and has some bike experience. My buddy mastered it really well.
Very nice tour starting from introd, free camper area with electricity. decent panorama, climb almost all on mule track, fun descent on single trail in the woods with several hairpin bends, mostly flow.
