This mountainous loop takes you to the natural jewel of Lake Haldensee, with some tough climbs on the Krinnenspitze. Good fitness and cycling skills are prerequisites to tackle the steep uphill and downhill terrain on this Tour.
Starting from Tannheim, you cycle on asphalt to Innergschwend and Lumberg. After a short stretch on the main road, you turn onto the wonderful gravel paths above Lake Haldensee, which lead you up to the first hill. Passing the Adlerhorst hut, you roll down through the forest to Nesselwängle. A snack station awaits you in Rauth if you want to refuel before the next climb.
On the Meraner Steig, you ascend about 400 metres (1,300 ft) in three large hairpin bends. When you arrive at the picturesque Krinnenalpe, you can enjoy wonderful views in the direction of the Gaichtspitze. If you still have power in your legs, follow the forest road up to the Edenalpe, climbing another 200 metres (650 ft). Situated at 1,680 metres (5,512 ft), the hut’s spectacular panorama is worth the effort.
From there, the trail curves downhill to the beautiful Lake Haldensee and you follow a great gravel path along the southern shore. You ride through the village of Haldensee, returning to Innergschwend and then Tannheim.
