This route was planned by komoot.
Our last hiking adventure begins under overcast skies. We take the transfer from Sotres to Arenas. From a parking lot above Arenas, our hike begins on foot up Arenas' local mountain, Juan Robre. It was to be an impressive hike and give us a lasting impression of the Picos. Alpine hiking trails, shepherd villages, the ringing of cowbells and vultures circling above our heads - a perfect end to the hiking week! Unfortunately, the weather did not play along. Low-hanging clouds and fog at higher altitudes meant that the ascent to the summit had to be cancelled. We still made the circuit of the summit. So a great hiking week comes to an end
Total time at least 5 hours. It goes steeply uphill, initially through a wooded area. When the weather is nice, there is a great view, but there is also constant sun. Sun protection and hats are essential, especially when the temperatures are high. The descent is more of a scree field, i.e. only loose ground, even if the route is marked. It's pretty demanding. In addition, the path is hidden by waist-high to man-high ferns and other bushes. In July there is not running and, above all, clean water everywhere, you should have at least 3 liters in your backpack, it is better to have more with you. In summary, it is a quite demanding but worthwhile round, we would have liked to know beforehand that over 90% of the way is not shaded and on the contrary in the blazing sun.
