The approximately three-and-a-half-hour hike through the picturesque Lech Gorge runs close to the European Watershed, where two important rivers in the Alps diverge.
Whether a drop of water flows via the Rhine into the North Sea or via the Danube into the Black Sea is a matter of a few…

From Lech am Arlberg to Warth, the Lechweg leads over pastures and through the forest. The views are magnificent and you repeatedly cross the Lech, which has now grown to a decent river size. The stage is far less demanding than the first, but is tough in some places. The climb through the forest just before Warth is worth it, the path is beautiful!
Our Lechweg adventure / Day 4, Stage 2 After a great breakfast (unbeatable) in the "Haus Widderstein", it was time to say goodbye to Lech. We set off at 9 a.m. towards Warth, where we had our next accommodation, the Berghotel Biberkopf. At the beginning, the Lechweg led us along wide gravel paths through forests and meadows, above the Lech. Later, it changed into forest and meadow paths. We could only rarely catch a glimpse of the Lech, but its rushing sound, deep below us in the gorge, accompanied us constantly. Again and again, we had to cross watercourses that fed it on wooden footbridges. From the Lech loop, it became visible to us again. First from above and after the descent into the Lech valley, below Warth, we were able to admire it in its full width. The path led us over a bridge and then came the most strenuous part for us. Up to the height of Warth, it was constantly uphill in a forest area. First on a wide gravel path and later on a narrow and stony root path. The climb ended on a meadow path above Warth, which gave us a great view. Then we continued comfortably to our accommodation, the "Berghotel Biberkopf".
The tour was great again. Here, too, we spent a lot of time among the cattle. The trail is challenging in places, but still manageable. The path through the forest is beautiful, but definitely not suitable for cycling. Here, too, the Lechweg is well-marked, and everyone can find their way easily. I can recommend this tour with a clear conscience 👍
Directly after Warth we pass the natural lake on the right and enter a beautiful forest. The path leads down to the Lech, which we cross. We hike steadily uphill against the current of the Lech and repeatedly get beautiful views of the Lech loops. We hike in the direction of the Grenztobel and reach the Lech Gorge. Breathtaking to watch the wild river here. Again and again we cross waterfalls and streams and reach Lech after only 11 km.
Unfortunately, today is the last stage of the Lechweg for us, as the stage to Formarinsee is still closed. Since the area here is not yet in season, unfortunately there is no bus between Warth and Lech, so we have to walk the stage back and forth. Let's start on an idyllic forest path that leads us from Warth down to the Lech. Then it goes up first, we cross a small snow field (the rest of an avalanche) and then always walk along the slope to Lech. At a waterfall we climb up a meadow to get a better view of it. Shortly before Lech, our lunch break, then again along the narrow but wild Lech. The last km then on the Flühweg above the beautiful village of LECH. Except for the supermarket, everything is closed there. Before we start our way back, we put our thumbs out, the car stops and a very nice couple drives us back to Warth. Now we can enjoy the afternoon here in peace. Tomorrow we'll go back towards Pflach, where we'll sleep again in the HOTEL SCHWANEN. The Lechweg was a great experience 😊
Day 2 on my Lechweg: beautiful landscapes ... simply to enjoy
Our relatively short stage initially runs through a beautiful panoramic location above Lech. At the Bodenalpe, the Lech dramatically pushes its way into the deep Lech Gorge and disappears from our view - only the roaring sound of the water accompanies us on the narrow path on wooden planks above the Lech Gorge (be careful when it is wet). We hike down in serpentines in beautiful hiking weather and reach the small natural bathing lake in the Walser village of Warth. Overnight stay in the Hotel Walserberg.
As written in the previous stage, I take the bus from Steeg to Warth "Dorfplatz" early. At first it is noisy because of the biker groups, but behind the Seebachsee there is peace and quiet. The path of stage 6 from Warth to Lech is simply fantastic despite the high proportion of forest paths: constantly changing between narrow paths on the Lech Gorge, waterfalls and wide alpine meadows. There is a lot to see, but there is no place to stop for refreshments. Only in Lech after about 12 kilometers is there a 🍧. The place seems like a holiday destination only for Swiss, the prices are so high: a small cola for 5 euros! So take the bus back to Tyrol. But the stage was thoroughly recommended!
