This very beautiful loop takes place on both sides of the upper Ariège valley. The starting point is the spa town of Ax-les-Thermes. You leave it by taking the corniche road which, on the hillside, takes you to the descent which leads to the village of Verdun.

The Verdun coast around kilometer 30 is worth the trip, because taking its hairpin bends is pure pleasure. After crossing the bridge over the river, you arrive at Les Cabannes where the official start of the ascent of the Plateau de Beille takes place.

This 16 kilometer climb is difficult and has significant percentages. On this plateau, a beautiful 360° view rewards you for all your efforts.

After having taken advantage of the altitude, you will have to think about going down. You return to your starting point by taking a road that follows the course of the Ariège.

Plateau de Beille

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The Beille plateau is a dead end. The road ends there. Besides being a finish of the Tour de France, it is also a ski resort in winter. Its altitude, which exceeds 1,800 meters, guarantees snow cover. In summer, it's more of a paradise for ruminants and hikers.
