Hiking

The landscape of the Segarra region is strongly marked by its dry crops. It is a mosaic of cereal fields, almond trees and vines. The latter make up part of the Costers del Segre designation of origin. The Cercavins Route follows the course of the river of the same name and visits towns such as l'Ametlla de Segarra and Montornès de Segarra. These small nuclei of accentuated rural character hide an interesting cultural and historical heritage that you do not want to miss.

The Route starts from l'Ametlla de Segarra, where you can visit the tower of the old castle, from the 11th century, and also the church of Sant Pere, of which its square bell tower with four eyes topped by a pinnacle stands out. You leave the town towards the south, towards Montoliu de Segarra and the Cercavins river, through paths surrounded by fields. The route does not go through Montoliu, but from the road you have a good view of this picturesque town perched on a hill.

Follow the path, parallel to the river, in the direction of Montornès de Segarra. At the entrance to the town, to your right, you will find the town's cemetery, in a modernist style and very peculiar due to its corners topped by pagodas covered in glazed ceramic. Montornès also houses an interesting heritage: the remains of its castle, attached to the parish church, or the old school, now converted into the town's social premises. It is highly recommended to visit the streets of its old town, whose houses preserve the old voussoired portals. After the visit to Montornès, you return to l'Ametlla again, crossing a varied succession of cultivated fields.
