An exciting and challenging mountain bike tour that leads just beyond the German-Austrian border, with more than 1,000 meters of elevation gain.
The tour starts at the Königssee/Jennerbahn car park. From there, the route continues past the Jenner valley station through a small settlement (follow the white arrows on the asphalt) toward Hochbahnweg. This leads to the Königsbachalm. Once there, it's worth taking a short break before the very steep climb continues at the next intersection. The banked curve here is known as the "Stoana Bankei" (Stoana Bankei). Even though it's only a short stretch, it's a real challenge. At this point, you'll see most cyclists pushing their bikes. Especially on the way back, it's best to push this section to reduce the risk of accidents. Following the path, you'll reach the Schneibsteinhaus about 2.5 km later. Shortly after that, you'll reach the Carl-von-Stahl-Haus. From there, you'll have a fantastic view toward Schneibstein. Return the same way.
Please ride carefully and be considerate of other national park visitors. In some places, it is advisable to push your bike. Please note that cycling in the national park is only permitted on designated trails.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. You can also start at the Hinterbrand parking lot and enter the national park at the reservoir. This will save you about 300 meters of elevation gain.
2. Depending on your stamina or battery life, you can of course also start in Berchtesgaden. The trail along the Königsseer Ache is beautiful and mostly flat.
NOTE: There are three rest stops (Königsbachalm, Schneibsteinhaus, Carl-von-Stahl-Haus).
BEST MONTHS: June - October
REQUIREMENTS: Very good fitness, helmet (recommended), first aid kit, plenty of food and drinks, sunscreen, rain gear, and everything else you might need :).
WHAT TO EXPECT: A challenging mountain bike tour with great views and places to stop for refreshments! It goes from Königssee, past the Königsbachalm and the Schneibsteinhaus, to the Carl-von-Stahl-Haus.
Please note that the difficulty ratings on the tour portals may vary. Your tour planning should be adapted to your physical condition.
INFORMATION ON CYCLING IN THE NATIONAL PARK: Cycling is only permitted on designated trails in the national park to avoid conflicts of use and safety risks, and to preserve rest areas for animals and plants. The designated trails are signposted throughout the area – look for the white signs with green lettering. These indicate the tour destinations along with the distance and the corresponding elevation gain.

Today, on the last day of good weather, we went up to the Stahlhaus from Königssee. There should be snow up there tomorrow morning. Anyone who has ever cycled up to the Stahlhaus without an e-bike knows that it is much more fun with an electric motor, although you have to really pedal hard on the sometimes 30% gradients! Once you reach the top, at almost 1800m, you can then cycle down to Kuchl with a few pushes and thus complete the circuit of the Hoher Göll. On the way back, a few marmots also peeked out from their hiding place at an alpine hut.
Very nice area and a strenuous tour. But it was worth it 😊👍. Unfortunately, you are officially only allowed to cycle as far as the Schneibsteinhaus, which I didn't know.
