Hiking
The Waterfall Trail leads through the stunning landscape of the Rutschenfelsen Nature Reserve. The highlights of the tour are the Urach Waterfall, which plunges impressively into the depths, and the Güterstein Waterfall, which captivates with its romantic flair. On this circular hike, you can also expect unique views from the Rutschenfelsen over the Erms Valley and the orchards of Bad Urach.
Did you know that the Waterfall Trail was named Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2016? Why? You'll suddenly realize this on this tour. You can look forward to some truly unforgettable natural treasures.
The trail starts at the Maisental hiking car park at the foot of the Schlossberg. You hike along the Brühlbach stream into the valley of the same name, enjoying the wildly romantic landscape. Soon, you'll hear the first faint rushing sound – that of the Urach Waterfall. The largest waterfall in the Swabian Alb awaits at the end of the valley and accompanies you on your ascent along the stair-filled nature trail. A few switchbacks eventually lead you to the Hochwiese meadow, where you can take a well-deserved break at the rest area with its waterfall hut.
Because now you'll need some energy. A steep nature trail continues up to the Ameisenbühl, which offers a magnificent view of the Rutschenfelsen rocks towering across the valley. Across a plateau, past the Rohrauer Hütte, and along a forest path in the woods, you soon reach and cross the Fohlenhof farm of the Marbach stud farm. A winding natural stone path finally leads you through the forest, past the Güterstein waterfall, to the foot of the slope. A path through orchards and a farm track that leads around a large horse paddock will return you to the starting point.

In early summer, the two spectacular waterfalls carry more water than in autumn. Not that many people are out on Saturday mornings. There are many opportunities to stop off on the tour or afterwards in beautiful Bad Urach. Surefootedness is absolutely necessary.

Something was going on at the Urach waterfall, almost nothing at the Gütersteiner and in between we were almost alone. The paths were almost completely dry, except the stairs at the waterfall 🤣 waterproof shoes 👟 had to be there today!

It was a very cold winter day when I set out to experience the sunrise on the Swabian Alb and I have to tell you it was amazing, Rutschenfels was my beginning and my end. So many impressions, everything up above covered in hoarfrost and spring in the valley below. However, my ascent of the Uracher waterfall
