Hiking

On day two of your tour to the Seekofel, I recommend getting up as early as possible so that you can be on the Seekofel at the best time and enjoy the wonderful all-round view.

After a hopefully restful sleep in the Seekofelhütte, you start the ascent to the Seekofel. The last section is quite demanding, so I recommend using a good headlamp if you are going before sunrise. After about an hour you will reach the summit of the Seekofel. Here you can soak up the peaceful mood during sunrise and take in a breathtaking 360 degree view of the Zillertal Alps, the Drei Zinnen and the Marmolada, among others.

The starting point of this hike, the Seekofelhütte, can be reached on foot in about four hours from the bus stop at Pragser Wildsee. You can find the right tour here: www.komoot.de/tour/1174835955.

A

Biella Hut / Seekofel Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The Seekofel Hut (Italian Rifugio Biella) is a refuge of the Italian Alpine Club (C.A.I. Club Alpino Italiano) and belongs to the Treviso section. Compared to other huts in the Fanes and Sennes area, the hut is more like a traditional refuge and that is precisely what makes it so charming. The accommodations are simple and good. The same applies to delicious Italian food.

The view from the terrace over the Sennes plateau is picturesque. In just one to one and a half hours you climbed from here to the summit of Seekofel (2,810 m). From there you have the most spectacular view over Lake Braies, the glaciers of the main Alpine ridge and the surrounding three-thousanders of the Dolomites.

You can find information about the hut here: rifugiobiella.it

Fantastically beautiful all-round view. 4h ascent from the parking lot at Pragser Pragser Wildsee. Easy climbing from the Seekofelhütte up to the summit cross.
From the parking lot to the Seekofelhütte about 3 hours, easy ascent.

Lake Braies north shore

Highlight • Lake

Lake Braies has a unique location in the middle of the Braies Dolomites and in the northern part of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park. The geological origin of the "Pearl of the Dolomite Lakes", as the emerald green lake is often called, is due to the creation of a dam through a mud flap.

Lake Braies also plays a role in the world of legends, because it was said that you could reach the underground realm of the Fanes by boat. The gateway to the underworld was at the southern end of the lake, where the imposing Seekofel (2,810 m) dominates the lake. It is not for nothing that this summit of the Braies Dolomites, coveted by mountaineers, bears the name "Sass dla Porta", meaning Torberg. Lake Braies is also the starting point for numerous mountain tours in the area and the Dolomite high-altitude trail no. 1 starts here. From the surrounding mountains you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the lake.

The only drawback: the lake is a very popular tourist destination. Visually beautiful, you won't find the tranquility of the mountains here.
