Unexpected views and a body of water as an accompaniment: On this tour you will get to know the forest areas between Wuppertal and Haan on an ongoing basis. It always goes slightly uphill and downhill. You are also partly in a nature reserve. Most of the time, soft forest paths are your surface, only asphalt awaits you on less than a kilometer of the route.
The round begins on the outskirts of the small town of Schöller, which belongs to Wuppertal. The starting point is very close to the Schöller manor. But the main role in the first part of the tour is played neither by the knight nor the lady of the castle, but by the river Düssel. You cross it right at the beginning and after you have walked about a kilometer in your legs, the Düssel ripples right next to you. The river serves as an idyllic running companion here, while the trees lean towards the bank and give you shade. The water of the river is – as the name suggests – on its way to Düsseldorf.
At this point you are no longer on Wuppertal soil. Without you probably noticing it, you unwind your kilometers on Haaner forest paths. And the Düssel is already being replaced by another defining element of the region: we are talking about pit 7. A quarry was built here at the end of the 19th century and lime was transported away up until the 1960s. Today, pit 7 is a nature reserve. The foothills of the area now serve as an unusual running backdrop, including a stair run in the middle of the forest.
The southernmost part of the loop is next on the program for you. Easy climbs in the forest area of Osterholz are followed by equally easy descents - until a slightly steeper incline is waiting to be sprinted up by you. As a reward, you run the final 2.5 kilometers slightly downhill. Here, by the way, your running shoes are already touching Wuppertal soil again. Passing the large and still active Osterholz pit you reach the starting point again.
The Schöller hiking car park is the start and end point of the tour. If you are traveling by public transport, you can get off at the Wuppertal-Hahnenfurth stop, for example.
