Hiking
With the circular route 7 of the Eichstätt Panorama Trail, you embark on a scenic journey around the episcopal city. You will stroll through the romantic city center with its history-laden buildings and along the slopes and mountain ridges that surround the city and promise plenty of nature.
The circular hike begins at the Eichstätt Stadt train station, which you can easily reach by train or bus. Here you will also find numerous parking spaces. You will cross the peacefully flowing Altmühl and stroll past the pretty church Notre Dame du Sacré Coeur. Slowly, you will leave the last buildings behind and climb up the slopes, over which the high-level path winds picturesquely. At the Hohen Kreuz, you will find a bench that invites you to take a break with a fantastic panorama. On your way, you can stop at the Brauerei-Gasthof Trompete or the Restaurant Schönblick and enjoy the local cuisine.
You will cross the federal highway 13, descend a few meters in altitude, and then gently climb back up to the tree-lined Kreuzweg-Allee. The last section leads you through shady forest not far from the Altmühl back to the starting point of the tour.

When we left Ingolstadt the sun was shining... unfortunately it hadn't fully arrived in Eichstätt yet. But it was. In the end it was really beautiful. I've done loop 7 several times, at different times of the year. Hiking had fallen a little behind recently, so a well-known tour with not too much elevation and distance was just right. 😉
Yesterday my husband redeemed his birthday present 🎁, the Panoramaweg in Eichstätt. It was wonderful. Such a great landscape. Unfortunately we could not visit the cathedral. But it will look all the more beautiful next year with new splendor... It's great where we can go everywhere thanks to the birthday presents. 🤗 At the end we got a delicious meal from the son 🧋🥗 at the Greek. The piece of Altmühltal that we saw is as beautiful as Iris always described. 😄🙋🏼♀️
Nominated as Germany's Most Beautiful Hiking Trail 2026 in the Day Trip category, we tested the Panoramaweg Eichstätt today because we were nearby - Conclusion: a varied and very beautifully laid out hiking trail with some wonderful, far-reaching views, lots of nature and resting places along the way😊👌 When open, you should definitely visit the impressive Willibaldsburg 🤩
A beautiful circular hiking trail around the episcopal city of Eichstätt. We start at the train station through the city center with its many baroque buildings. Short but steep ascent on the outskirts. At the top you will be rewarded with fantastic views of Eichstätt. A new look at every turn. At the end of the high path it goes steeply and steadily back down into the valley. You always have the Willibaldsburg in view. After the valley comes the mountain. So again uphill to the castle. We go around this and see the Rebdorf monastery in the next valley. Gigantic. It continues uphill and ends in dry grass slopes. Typical for Eichstätt and the surrounding area. Just beautiful. After we have passed a large flock of sheep, we see the baroque Frauenberg chapel in the distance. We continued on the Way of the Cross through a chestnut avenue into the KultURwald. An old natural beech forest with a lot of dead wood. It leads us back to the Eichstätter train station, our starting point. Conclusion: Another nice hike in the Altmühltal. Moderate hike. Sturdy shoes and surefootedness should be available.
Nice path around Eichstätt. Always beautiful views of Eichstätt
In wonderful weather we went on hiking trail 7 around Eichstätt today 🌞 great varied hiking trail.
Today I finally headed to Eichstätt itself and onto Panorama Trail number 7. A fantastic hike! The university town alone, with its over 1000-year history and the Willibaldsburg castle perched above it, is worth a visit. The trail not only leads through the interesting town, but, as the name suggests, also offers many fabulous views and panoramas. For the most part, you follow beautiful paths through the stunning landscape. And last but not least, you pass the imposing Willibaldsburg castle, which is quite impressive even from the outside. A wonderful and varied hike! PS: I changed my starting point from the train station to a free parking lot, which meant I briefly deviated from the marked trail in the "KultUrWald" (Cultural Forest).
