Course 1: 20 kilometres – Trail du Bout du Monde

This Tour takes you to discover the wild landscapes of the Kermorvan peninsula and the magnificent coast between Le Conquet and the Saint-Mathieu lighthouse.

Departing from Pointe Saint-Mathieu, you leave the coast to head towards Le Conquet, along small roads and country paths.

After about 3.5 kilometers, you begin your descent towards the spectacular Ria du Conquet. The landscape here changes with the tide: at low tide, it is an expanse of plants and sand, and at high tide the ria becomes a vast arm of the sea in the inner harbor. You cross the Croaë footbridge to reach the north shore of the estuary. Then, a passage through a pine wood takes you to Blancs Sablons beach.

You go around the beach along the sandy paths before taking the coastal path leading to Fort de l'Îlette. From here, on a clear day, you can see the islands of Molène and Ouessant, located 14 and 25 kilometers from the mainland. Towards the north you can see the tip of Corsen, the westernmost point of mainland France. You continue your tour of the peninsula to discover the Kermorvan fort, and behind it, the lighthouse, connected to the land by its granite bridge.

About a kilometer further, take a break to admire the port of Le Conquet and the town in the background. You cross the Croaë footbridge a second time before starting your return to the starting point. You follow the customs officers' path along the coast, passing the beaches of Portez, Bilou and Porz Liogan. One kilometer before your arrival, Penzer Point offers you a beautiful view of the rocky promontory which houses the Saint-Mathieu lighthouse: “Penn ar bed”, the end of the world.

In creating these routes, I tried to stay as faithful as possible to the race routes. However, the official courses leave the trails several times, so a few segments of the 20 kilometer race are not included in my routes:

1) After the first crossing of the Croaë footbridge, the race leaves the path to follow the banks of the water to the pine wood.
2) Around the ninth kilometer, there is a passage on Blancs Sablons beach.
3) Around the 12th kilometer, the race leaves the public road to go around the Kermorvan lighthouse.
