Old Saint-Germain Church, Carteret

Highlight • Religious Site

These are the ruins of a church dedicated to Saint Germain le Scotus, who evangelized Cotentin in the 5th century. The place is very photogenic. You can see the beach through the Gothic period oculus.

Highlight • Other

This part of the trail is carried out on a path made of sand from the dunes. The effort is multiplied, but the views are superb.

August 3, 2022, An der Steilküste des Cap de Carteret entlang durch die Dunes d‘Hatainville

Beginning and ending in Barneville-Carteret, we hiked a beautiful circular route along the cliffs of Cap de Carteret to the ruins of the église Saint-Germain and then through the Dunes d'Hatainville. 🌞🖖

F - 50 - CAP DE CARTERET ... DÜNÖS THE WHOLE - 11 KM It was dumb! Kilometer eating 576 / 500 KM with the summer sweat 2023 from NordMarsch: - of which hiking 551 KM - of which running 25 KM Donation to life heroine : 340 EUR / 500 EUR The tour should be "difficult". Actually, since 2020, the word for me not to go on such a tour at all. See: https://www.komoot.de/tour/160878894?ref=itd Well, one more try, I thought! And what should I say? It works! Was a bit tricky in a few places, but not dizzyingly bad. Only the heat and the sandy paths in the dunes were exhausting today. A worthwhile tour! The end is a little tiring on the road into town. Today we went from Carteret via the GR 223 to Cap de Carteret. Then we stayed on the GR 223 to the ruined church of Saint-Germain-le-Scot and then through the dunes of Hattainville. Here we left the GR and walked back to our car via the quiet D 201 road. It was a beautiful circuit with great views of the English Channel and the beaches. The circuit is easy to walk, with no technical difficulties. There are a few short sections between Carteret and around the cape where you should not be afraid of heights. It goes down quite deep, but the path is a bit wider than a footpath.
