Hiking
Today the clog path goes 14 kilometers through the outskirts of Culemborg. You walk on the Goilberdingerpad. Not so easy to pronounce, but that doesn't matter: it promises to be another varied walk through the Dutch landscape.
The walk is a round that starts and ends at Fort Werk aan de Poel. So put on those walking shoes, because you have work to do!
After a few hundred meters you will pass an interesting Highlight, belonging to Fort Werk aan de Poel: the bullet catcher. This is at the end of a shooting range that used to be here. The bullet trap was intended to catch bullets that missed their target. Now the catcher stands prominently in the center of the pasture.
You follow the meadows for a while. Make sure you have food and drinks in your backpack, because you won't find any catering establishments for miles.
After walking a bit, you will eventually pass the floodplains of the Lek. This is a beautiful nature reserve where you can enjoy the meandering water and possibly grazing cattle while walking through the vast greenery. It is a wonderful walk and an ideal stretch to clear your head.
Via the vast floodplains you arrive at Fort Everdingen and the Beersluis. The fort is part of the New Dutch Waterline and part of the leak access: an area that could be flooded to keep the enemy at a distance. Besides an interesting piece of history, it is also a perfect place for a pit stop. You will find home-brewed specialty beers in the restaurant. Of course you have to taste one of these before you continue!
Hopefully you can still stand on your feet after that special beer, because you still have 2 kilometers to go to the finish. The piece again leads over a beautiful path along the Lek. Those who like it can sail back and forth across the water with the line ferry. A good end to a nice walk!
At Werk aan de Spoel is restaurant Caatje aan de Lek. Not only can you enjoy a snack and drink here before or after your walk, but you can also park your car here. Are you coming by public transport? Make the route extra long by walking 3 kilometers from Culemborg station or take the bus to the Everdingen, Diefdijk stop in Culemborg and walk to your starting point in half an hour.
