Route 10 offers the ultimate experience for mountain bike fans in the Rhön. It combines the most beautiful sections of various tours into an 80-kilometer circuit. A highlight is the ascent to the Kreuzberg, whose 928-meter-high summit with the 17th-century monastery marks almost the highest point in the Bavarian Rhön. The actual highest point, the Dammersfeld, is located in the inaccessible Wildflecken military training area and is only 10 centimeters higher than the Kreuzberg. The route impresses with over 40% single trails and natural paths. The difference in altitude between the lowest and highest point of the tour is more than 700 meters, which requires careful planning. Changes in the weather are possible: while pleasant conditions can prevail in the Saale valley, wintry conditions can occur between the Kreuzberg and the Black Mountains - a risk that hardly exists from May to September. The tour invites you to enjoy numerous viewpoints and the unique nature of the Rhön. Due to the large number of possible stops, it is worth splitting the route into two days. An overnight stay in a mountain hut or on the Kreuzberg allows you to experience the silence and darkness of the Rhön - an experience that is underlined by the region's status as an "International Star Park". Beautiful tour that takes you past the Würzburger Haus, the Kissinger Hütte, the Berghaus Rhön and especially the Kreuzberg. The view from the Kissinger Hütte is very beautiful.
I'm back in the Rhön, starting in Schlimpfhof. Across the Oehrbachtal to Geroda and up to the Berghaus Rhön. On to the Würzburger Haus and the Kissinger Hütte. On trails up to the Kreuzberg, next destination was the Gemündener Hütte, I also took the Neustädter Haus. Now on trails to Kilianshof, over the Buchschlag Trail to Schmalwasser. (thanks for the info @Kissbike M+E). Now it continued on trails to Hohn, Aschach, and back to Schlimpfhof. Some trails were very challenging for me, it's a very nice tour, the trail portion is very high, you can do it again. Shortly before Schlimpfhof I met @Kcycle 🤩, we had a good chat, I was very happy to meet you again.
