TOUR DESCRIPTION: Caleruega is a pretty town in Ribera del Duero, located between Peñas Cerveras and Ribera del Duero, surrounded by farmland and beautiful holm oak groves. We begin the tour in the center of town, next to the two restaurant bars that exist in the town, and then wander the streets until we head south. Immediately we see the yellow-white marking that belongs to a marked path of the Ribera del Duero Burgalesa. The route is very comfortable, at all times we will go along a farm road until we reach the "La Pudia" Site, a small early medieval village from the 10th century. Soon we will go to the mulhadar, and a dovecote adapted for bird watching. You can see many griffon vultures, red kites and other species, on the other side of the road a pond that is sometimes full of waterfowl, such as wild ducks, herons, and cranes. A small recreational area with some tables leads us to visit Alfonso VIII's winery and above it, the castle and the hermitage in ruins. We walk back to the dovecote and continue along the path to the left. We go up a small hill and we will walk a few meters along the road to join again on the right along a path that rises. We come to a metal turret on the left, we don't know if it's a fire turret because it's open. From here we will contemplate the views that this place offers. We continue a few meters down following the path until we reach the sea lion colonies, which are actually tenadas or corrals protected by a high wall to prevent access by predators such as wolves. This first tenada-lobera is behind closed doors, there is a small museum, with stuffed birds representative of the area. Further down, we will find another group of sea lion herds, fully restored, they can be used to sleep or have a snack. We continue towards Caleruega, and a must visit the San Mamés Site and followed by the majestic Santo Domingo holm oak. The road at all times is very comfortable until you reach the town. Information of interest: Very comfortable path, it is 11 kilometers. negligible unevenness. easy difficulty.
