Someone should say churches are boring. We can only say one thing, visit the churches and you will be impressed by the simplicity of the churches. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the last church in Landkirchen. (Closed 😞)
The bike tour leads to the four historic churches on the island of Fehmarn, past the Grüner Brink nature reserve in the north. The route is signposted with a church symbol on the bike signs. https://www.komoot.de/tour/110835583?ref=atd
First it went to the test center, then the tour, past seemingly endless grain fields, through small villages and along the Baltic Sea.
The church tour is one of the themed tours that is also advertised on the Fehmarn website. A mandatory round, so to speak. We started at the entrance to Landkirchen, where you can also find the beautiful Petrikirche. But we saved this for last. First we went in the direction of the castle, where we made a first stop on the Blieschendorfer Weg at the kath. St. Francis Xavier inlaid. you can easily drive past it, as it is not particularly noticeable. Very modern, simple but very appealing on the inside thanks to the magnificent windows that let in lots of light. We continue in the direction of downtown Burger to the St. Nikolai Church, a visit to which is an absolute must. This is an Evangelical-Lutheran three-aisled hall church that was built around 1230 during the transition from Romanticism to Gothic. We continue through the city center towards Niendorf and soon reach Bannesdorf with the church of St. Johannis from the 13th century. The all-wood bell tower, added in 1701, is unusual. Now it goes in the direction of Puttgarden and from there a bit along the water. Here is the "Green Brink" nature reserve, worth an extra themed tour that we will do later. Through Gammendorf and Vadersdorf we then reach Lemkendorf, where we briefly "stretch out our feet". Petersdorf is again worth a longer stop: the St. Johannis Church awaits a visit here. On the way there we had seen a church spire in the distance and so we turned off towards Dänschendorf for a short while but didn't find a church there despite asking. The same on the onward journey to Schlagsdorf, no church here either. We must have seen a mirage. This triangle that we also drove there was pointless, it is not included in the original route and can therefore safely be neglected. The peak that we saw from afar belongs to the church in Petersdorf, and that's where we went. An absolute must to visit this church. The initially two-aisled church was built in the late-Romantic style in the first third of the 13th century and was later to be expanded to a four-aisled church. However, the south aisle and a Gothic antechamber were realised. The church tower, renovated in 1567, is the highest on Fehmarn at over 60 meters and still serves as a landmark for seafarers today. Via Gollendorf it then heads south to the water (Orther Reede) and then via Lemkenhafen past an old museum mill and the Neujellingsdorf area back to Landkirchen. The St. Petri Church, mentioned at the beginning, is still waiting here, which is the absolute final point. In old documents, country churches are referred to as de Landt Kercke. The church of St. Nikolai in Burg is about the same age. The two churches are the oldest on the Baltic Sea island; before it was built there was only the Peter and Paul chapel in the Puttgarden district, which was first mentioned in a document in 1198. The building of the three-aisled brick church, probably built around 1230, has only a small ridge turret, the wooden church tower a few meters away was built in 1638 and completely restored in 2016. The choir, originally narrower, was later extended to the width of the nave. The Petrikirche was not only the ecclesiastical center of the so-called middle parish, but also had a role as a secular center at the crossing point of the two roads running through the island of Fehmarn from north to south and east to west. And finally, how lucky: directly opposite the church, the restaurant "Dat ole Aalhus" awaits us, where we were able to end the round. A very beautiful, sunny and instructive day. You should definitely go on this tour.@
Fehmarn the first 🚵 this tour runs two thirds inland of the island perfect to get a little closer to culture and nature.👍
I did the church tour at Easter. I chose the tour from Komoot's suggested list.
With the church tour we followed a signposted cycle route today. The route passes all four historic churches on the island, in Bannesdorf, Petersdorf, Landkirchen and Burg. Actually, sun was announced for the whole day today. We started out in fog and assumed that the fog would clear up soon. However, the fog has stubbornly persisted. In between the sun came through and then the fog was so dense again that you could hardly see anything. At the end of the tour, the sun finally prevailed. Because of the fog, the tour almost had something meditative about it, in line with the motto of the tour.
