Hiking

The Fratelli Calvi Refuge is located at an altitude of 2,020 meters in the center of one of the most beautiful basins of the Orobico arch, which includes all the major elevations of the Brembana Valley. The refuge is an excellent base for excursions and alpine climbs, as well as for various ski mountaineering itineraries.

Among the most important mountains that can be reached using this refuge as a base for ascents, Pizzo del Diavolo, Monte Grabiasca, Monte Madonnino and Monte Cabianca stand out.

The Fratelli Calvi Refuge is very popular with hikers both by those who decide to spend a day in the mountains and then return home and by those who undertake multi-day treks. The refuge, in fact, is one of the stages of the "Sentiero delle Orobie".

From Carona you start from the hairpin bend along the road that passes above the village and go up almost entirely along the road, mostly unpaved. Following path 210, shortly after you reach Borgo di Pagliari. From here go down to the right taking path 247, also called the "summer path" and cross the Brembo river.

Continue climbing through the woods up to Dosso dei Signori and continue in an easterly direction with the same path until you reach the Capra hut, where you rejoin the initial path 210. From here the path becomes gentler, continuing up to Lake Fregabolgia and then shortly after to the Fratelli Calvi Refuge.

On the way back, you can follow the entire path 210 to admire the Prato lake and the Val Sambuzza waterfall, before returning to Carona.

View of Lake Carona

Highlight • Viewpoint

Carona overlooks an artificial lake which makes this mountain village even more spectacular. The area near the lake is a strategic point because it is close to numerous paid parking lots, the departure points of the most famous trails and has picnic areas where you can relax while listening to the Brembo river flow by.

Pagliari Village

Highlight • Settlement

Borgo di Pagliari is a charming village surrounded by an almost fairy-tale atmosphere, with stone houses and slate roofs. Built in 1600, it is nestled in Val Brembana along the path that leads to the Fratelli Calvi refuge and the Fratelli Longo refuge. It is about half an hour from Carona and at the beginning of the village there is a fountain where you can fill up your water bottle.
A visit to Pagliari is a must, in all seasons. In winter the snow envelops Pagliari in a magical atmosphere, while in summer the village is surrounded by a gentler and more varied environment, where the green tongues of pastures and meadows penetrate the narrow streets and alleys.

Rain is expected in the afternoon and I go to Calvi for the convenience of returning to the road which is feasible with an umbrella

A classic of Bergamo excursions, about which I have little to write. Went via the summer trail, but would advise against it for at least the next two weeks. In the final stretch, you must proceed with caution. The mountain has unloaded a lot of snow onto the path from the various gullies and therefore, even if not dangerous, we …

27 years after a memorable tour made in my youth, in which we climbed Mount Grabiasca, Mount Madonnino and Pizzo del Fargno, covered in snow in May, I returned to the Calvi Refuge. It remains a great place, with a remarkable mountain panorama. Ascent along the carriage road, descent along the summer path 247. Read everything on waterwind.it

From carona to the calvi refuge passing through the summer path, if you want to follow it in this period you need at least crampons to cross the snow-covered and icy sections, there are some sections where you have to pay attention, who does not like to take the concrete road as in mine chance and a good alternative the …

Good morning everyone. A lovely hike on Sunday, starting from the summer trail in Carona. It's beautiful because the entire landscape is so different from the dirt and concrete road. The return journey, however, was along the dirt road. We reached Lake Ca' Bianca, and in the middle, a delicious polenta taragna with venison morsels at the Calvi Refuge—a must-try.

First time at the F.lliCalvi winter event. The refuge remained open for the holiday season, and it does not disappoint. Departure on a cloudy day from Carona, after Pagliari the signs for the Refuge indicate 2.40 minutes. Thus begins the constant ascent with crampons up to the meadow lake, where you can catch your breath. Continue to the foot of …

Today trip to the ref. Calvi with my parents, with difficulty but they were really good! We were hoping for the Laburnum in bloom (last year in the same period it was a marvel) and instead I think the season is a couple of weeks late. Finally, a pity for the lavatina taken on the way back. Thanks mom and …
