Auf dem KAT-Walk: Kirchberg bis Kitzbühel

Stage 3 of the Kitzbüheler Alpen Trail, or KAT Walk for short, takes you from Kirchberg in Tirol to the old town of Kitzbühel. You will get to know part of the 104-kilometer long-distance hiking trail along the 16-kilometer route. On the way you will learn a lot about the world-famous downhill ski race in the sports town of Kitzbühel and hike on part of the original race track.

Start is in the center of Kirchberg. Through the alpine pasture you always hike up to the highest point of the tour, the Ehrenbachhöhe. On the way you can stop at the Krin mountain inn or the Maierl inn and enjoy fantastic views of the entire Wilder Kaiser. The Ehrenbachhöhe with its 1,802 meters is the highest point of the Hahnenkamm.

The path leads you under the Fleckalmbahn and past some storage lakes. You continue to walk over the ridge through the Kitzbühel ski area to the Hahnenkamm mountain station. This is where the descent along the famous Streif race track to Kitzbühel begins. Display boards along the route show you the known sections, such as the mouse trap, the steep slope or the Hausbergkante. On this route, the professional athletes reach maximum speeds of up to 140 kilometers per hour on their skis. You definitely don't have time to enjoy the beautiful views of Kitzbühel and the Wilder Kaiser.

On June 5, 2020, you can have a hiking guide tell you more about the race track under the motto "Pure World Cup feeling - from the Hahnenkamm to the legendary Streif". Registration is possible at any time through the local tourist offices.
