The Gerstinger Joch is actually not a classic mountain with a summit. The high ridge is an elongated ridge that received its cross at its highest and most beautiful point. Since there is no mountain railway up, this hike is perfect for nature lovers who like to calmly earn more…

In fact, on this third day on the Kitzbühler Alpen Trail, we had a bit worse weather than the last few days, but somehow not. The sun announced in the morning remained behind the clouds, in the second half of the day there was a lot of rain from above. Our 1200 meter ascent was rewarded anyway, because as we were heading towards the summit, the cloud cover loosened and we had something like a panorama. Actually you can even make out the Großglockner from the Gerstinger Joch (2043 m). It wasn't possible today to see the surrounding mountains, but after the many foggy days it was enough for me. The low-hanging clouds, the mountain tops above, a bit of snow here, a crystal-clear moor pond there in front of brightly colored high mountain vegetation - that was really fantastic. And even if the view on the Gerstinger Joch was not entirely clear due to wisps of fog, I could guess how great this vantage point is. The way down over the ridge along the ridge was fantastic and possibly also very promising. That definitely compensated for the long ascent on the alpine paths, which require some stamina without a view. With the Labalm there is a wonderful, rustic hostel for us. But whether we can continue the trail tomorrow is questionable. Already today the paths were quite muddy because of the heavy rain, sometimes ankle-deep. And there is still soooo much rain to come, tomorrow alone it will rain for 19 hours 😬
