Hiking
The first half goes through Austria, you hike back through Italy - this almost ten-kilometer tour starts at the Nassfeld border crossing. Where border bars created hurdles until 1998, you can now hike without borders thanks to the Schengen Agreement.
The first few kilometers are tough: You hike uphill, but after two and a half kilometers you have already reached the highest point of the hike. As a reward, a wonderful view of the rugged south side of the Gartnerkofel awaits you. From now on it's almost all downhill.
You continue hiking on gravel paths, pass a small lake and reach the Garnitzenalm a little later. Here you can treat yourself to a break, from mid-June to mid-September you can get traditional food here.
Not far, then you cross the border and continue your hike in Italy. From the Kronalm you have a magnificent view of the valley of the Rio Bombaso. The path leads you back over idyllic alpine meadows and you will be accompanied by more great views. You will soon have reached Lago di Pramolo, which is just before the Nassfeld border crossing.

I thought 11 km was a reasonable length for the family. The first 4 km were advertised as steep. The remaining kilometers were supposed to be relatively flat down into the valley. Actually, the kids were already exhausted after the climb, and there were a few uphill sections on the way back. => The spirits were at rock bottom!!! I was able to motivate the little one. The older one was also worried about 🐻 🐻 and loudly announced that it would be his last vacation with us. I thought the tour was very beautiful, and the views were picturesque.
Great hike on the Nassfeld via Watschigeralm and Garnitzenalm. Be sure to take the summit of the Kronalpe with you, the view is magnificent. Unfortunately, the Ofenalm is not managed
4 alpine pasture tour: 1530 m - 1858 m **** Walking time: 4 hours Altitude meters: 450 Kilometers: 10.1 Condition: ■ Surefootedness: ■ Free from giddiness: Panorama: ■■■■■ The tour begins at the top of the pass. Here the hike begins on a wide gravel path, past the Auernigalm and out to the Ofenalm. After a drink break at the Alm with a view of the Julian Alps, we continue on an old military path to the Garnitzenalm, where we can stop as we please. From here it goes slightly uphill to the Garnitzenthörl where we have reached the highest point of the tour. Now it's just downhill and past the fourth and last alpine pasture.
After a 4.5 hour journey, we took the chairlift up to the Gartnerkofel and from there we went downhill to the Garnitzenalm, which we know from our skiing holiday. Then we marched on the Italian side along the HP6 until we arrived at the hotel over the Passo Pramollo.
And on a rainy day, it's best to go --- you already guessed it, to the "Nassfeld". On the Italian side, the sun did shine and provided a view of the Julian Alps. There were also plenty of delicious raspberries on the easily accessible path. The Austrian side is characterized by ski lifts and managed huts and therefore not quite as rustic. Incomprehensibly, new ski lifts are still being developed and multi-storey apartment buildings are being built on the Nassfeld. (As if you hadn't learned from past mistakes.) All in all, however, there was an attractive panorama tour around the Auernig and Garnitzenberg.
