Hiking
This generous 23 kilometer loop covers several peaks around Lourdes which offer their share of panoramas over the heart of the Pyrenees chain. Pretty mountain trails are responsible for making the link between each of them.
World famous for its historical religious heritage, Lourdes attracts many pilgrims every year who come to meditate there. The city is placed at the gates of the Gaves valley. It extends from Lourdes at 325 meters above sea level, to Vignemale culminating at the Spanish border at 3,298 meters.
The departure is located at the Lourdes train station which is on the Piedmont line of the Occitanie Rail Tour. You join the Gave de Pau where the GR 101 path crosses, you will follow the markings to the village of Ossen. Take advantage of your crossing of the city to find your lunch. Indeed, when leaving Lourdes, you will find nothing on the way to refuel. Also bring enough water.
From the village, you embark on a climb that leads to the peak of Alian, the first belvedere of your journey at 1,089 meters above sea level. The ascent continues towards the Pic du Pibeste via a pretty ridge passage. Arrived at the top, the panorama on the chain of the Pyrenees seems infinite. In clear weather it is possible to observe a significant number of peaks.
The descent begins by sliding between the soum of Mont Agut and the mall of Arréou before reaching the village of Ségus. From there you undertake a new and final climb to Béout. This summit offers a beautiful view of the city of Lourdes that you are about to find. Back in the city, take a short detour through the area of the sanctuary of Lourdes before returning to the station.
