Very disappointing story. As you you can only prebook tickets on the day before, the only chance to get a ticket was to book a the bus shuttle (25€ with entrance from Ercolano station).

To make the whole tour ( trail nr 5 Gran Cono) you have to get the permission from a special guide from the last shop on …
