This circular hiking trail begins at the mountain station of the Rittner Horn cable car. The entire trail is lined with vivid descriptions of the mountain pine and the Swiss stone pine (Zirm). There are places to stop off right along the trail to sample culinary specialties made with the pine nut and mountain pine, as well as pine and mountain pine schnapps. As if this wasn't enough of a topic for a premium trail, the South Tyrolean Sky Tour also boasts magnificent views. First you look at the Sarntal Alps and then, when you have climbed the Rittner Horn, a wonderful panorama of the Dolomite peaks opens up.
This time a super nice tour from Schwarzsee Spitze up to the Rittner Horn. The shortest ascent is pretty steep. I can only highly recommend the hut above. Good tasty food at reasonable prices. The descent via the Himmels Tour in the direction of the Latschen distillery is very rocky in the first quarter, so you should pay close attention to the path with its scree and steep descent in places. After the distillery it's uphill again. Very nice hiking trail with wonderful views. The hike was completely to my liking and I can only highly recommend it.
We wanted to do the tour described in the Kompass hiking guide to Bolzano last year, but the weather wasn't ideal. Postponing it until this year was worth it. We had fantastic weather with amazing views of the Geisler peaks, the Sella massif, the Sassolungo and Sassopiatto, the Catinaccio, and the Latemar. We could see the entire Seiser Alm. The Ortler and the Texel Group were also visible. We stopped repeatedly to take what felt like 100 pictures of the Schlern. But we also passed through Swiss stone pine and mountain pine forests. Along the way, we stopped at a mountain pine oil distillery and were told that the high-quality mountain pine oil is still distilled there just like it was 100 years ago. It's said to help with joint pain, among other things. Of course, we bought it, and were able to easily master the rather steep, rocky climb to the Rittner Horn, including the summit hut 😉.
