Col d'Azet – emblematic passes of the Pyrenees

The Col d'Azet is less known and frequented than its prestigious neighbours. However, since 1997, it has already been used ten times by the Tour de France. Located in the Louron valley between Saint-Lary-Soulan and Loudenvielle, it culminates at 1,580 meters above sea level.

The start of the course is in the center of Saint-Lary-Soulan. A false downward flat begins by bringing you to the pretty mountain village of Arreau. Then you start a long false flat going up to Génos and its lake. This is where the ascent to the Col d'Azet starts.

The climb is just over seven kilometers long and includes some passages at more than 13%. This one has several switchbacks that quickly take you above the valley and its lake. The Col d'Azet culminates at 1,580 meters and therefore offers a remarkable landscape on its slopes as well as at its summit.

The descent is made on the foothills of a beautiful rocky ridge to the small town of Azet. Several switchbacks meander under the village before reaching the village of Saint-Lary-Soulan.
