This round shows you some geological features of the Altmühltal. In addition to Solnhofen, Pappenheim and Treuchtlingen are also good starting points because there is a train station in all three places. A visit to the museum in Solnhofen is worthwhile, as it houses one of the most important paleontological collections in Bavaria with several fossils of the primeval bird Archeopteryx.
On the first section along the Altmühl you have a fantastic view of the impressive rock group "Twelve Apostles". You then cycle uphill through the lovely Gailachtal between the river and juniper heaths, repeatedly interrupted by short descents. In the hilly terrain you can enjoy the gravel paths and small roads. You will pass the Mörnsheim castle ruins.
At Möhren you finally reach the valley of the Möhrenbach, where you are greeted by a beautiful view of the local castle. Soon you will pass Treuchtlingen, which is worth a visit with its Renaissance castle and the Altmühltherme. A stop in Pappenheim a few kilometers away is also worthwhile to visit the castle and the two palaces.
