There is little time to warm the lungs as you roll out of Annecy and start the climb of Le Semnoz. At 17km long and an average gradient of around 7% it's gruelling for the legs and the lungs. The climb starts by snaking through the woods yet begins to open up at the upper sections to reveal beautiful views of the lake making it worth every second. Rather than stopping at the top, descend and find a lovely café called La Baratte for a coffee and a slice of cake, fuelling you up for the rest of the ride. The ride leading to Forclaz is mainly flat with occasional snapshot views of the lake as you fly past. The first few km’s of the Forclaz tease you by being fairly easy then the steep sections hit you. With an average gradient of 7.5% this climb has everything you look for in a ride, smooth tarmac, tough parts, easy parts and then fantastic views that are just breath taking. Descend and then follow the lake back to Annecy for a well deserved plunge in the lake and an Aperol spritz.
