Laguna Negra de Urbión

Highlight • Lake

The black lagoon is located north of Soria, in the well-known region of Pinares. Discover this spectacular lagoon of glacial origin located at almost 2000 meters of altitude in the Sierra de Urbión. There are several legends about the black lagoon since it has no bottom, that it communicates with the sea through a series of caves and currents or that a being lives in its dark waters that devours everyone who falls into it. The most widespread legend is the one written by Antonio Machado in 1912 in the Land of Alvar Gonzalez, alluding to the absence of a background. The reality is that the black lagoon of Urbión is between 8 and 10 meters deep.

Trail Reviews

Jorge
August 9, 2021, Pico Urbión desde la Laguna Negra

The ascent, and the descent, from the Laguna Negra to the beginning of the route to the source of the Duero River and Picos de Urbión can be complicated, especially from km 2,300 to 2,500. It's a zigzag climb. See the profile of the route. A firm step and proper footwear is required.

circular route I would classify it as family-oriented, in fact I have met quite a few children of about 14 years of age, the only difficulty is in the first 400 m, going up and down, the rest is a walk without much incline, although the last 100 m before the peak Urbion are a bit tricky with so much rock and unmarked trail, but nothing complicated, The views are spectacular and it is worth visiting the lagoons
