Hiking

The peak of Maupas is a magnificent peak culminating at 3,109 meters above sea level on the Franco-Spanish border. The last portions of its ascent make it reserved for seasoned hikers.

Its departure is in the parking lot of the Auberge du Lis. The first section goes up a very beautiful valley which leads you to Lake Célinda. You then embark on a pleasant path which presents you with several lakes, as well as a nice view of Lac Vert and its unique shape.
You then reach the refuge of Maupas which marks a change of environment.

The slope steepens and you are now moving on more rocky terrain. This requires your attention in order to follow the cairns well and not lose the path that winds through the stones.
The tusse de Maupas marks a key passage. Once reached, you evolve on a ridge which leads you to the peak of Maupas.

At the top, the view rewards all your efforts, as dizzying as it is impressive, the panorama offers all the emblematic peaks of the Pyrenees within easy reach.

The descent is on the same path to the Maupas refuge. Then you take a new part made of short switchbacks which aims to cut the loop of the lakes that you discovered beforehand.

This hike can be done in one day for seasoned hikers. However, I strongly advise you to stop at the Maupas refuge to savor the incredible beauty of this valley.
