The 80 kilometers of this Route will bring you closer to some of the most famous wineries in La Rioja and the Basque Country. The circular route follows the contours of the southern sierras of Álava to the east and returns to the starting point in Haro following the Ebro river.
You start from Haro and go up for about 13 kilometers towards the Toloño mountain, from where you can admire the views of the Ebro valley. On the descent towards San Vicente de la Sonsierra you pass by the medieval necropolis of the Bardallo graves, a peculiar sample of life in these parts in the 10th century.
On your way east you pass by wineries whose architecture is as important as the quality of their wines: the Baigorri winery and the Ysios winery will not leave you indifferent. It is also worth stopping at the town of La Hoya, an archaeological site that includes a small museum.
In the town of El Ciego there is another sample of spectacular architecture, the Elciego wineries, designed by Frank Gehry. The return to Haro, following the course of the Ebro river, passes by two castles, that of Davalillo and the castle-fortress of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The last kilometers, very flat and next to the river, take you back to Haro, the end of the Route.
