Love this ride! The section between Merklingen and to Feldstetten is nothing special, but from Feldstetten onwards it's just fabulous! Firstly across the closed roads and wide open spaces of the Münsingen military training area, then the lovely easy riding down the beautiful Gr. Lautertal. The Wolfstal is fantastic, twisty and atmospheric, and the long climb back up after that is quite challenging (a long time in bottom gear!). Then on through woods and across the expanse of the Alb - a really satisfying gravel ride :)
This time, Germany's fastest regional train took you across the new Filstal Bridge in just 14 minutes from Wendlingen to the new Merklingen/Schwäbische Alb train station for a mere 2.70 euros (including a bicycle and with a Bahncard 25) – it couldn't be better. The train has been running every hour since December 2022 and there are 16 bicycle parking spaces that do not need to be reserved and are located at the front on the journey to Merklingen and at the back to Wendlingen. tiptop! 👌
