Welcome to De Plateaux - Hageven Nature knows no boundaries and at De Plateaux - Hageven you can take that literally. Meadows, forests, heaths and fens alternate in this quiet border region. The Dommel winds its way through the landscape with rare plants and animals. In the spring you will find orchids there and in the fall the autumn crocus turns the meadows purple
The nature reserves De Plateaux (Netherlands) and Hageven (Belgium) together form one nature reserve through which the border between Belgium and the Netherlands runs. It is a very varied area in the valley of the river De Dommel. This is a beautiful hiking area. We walked a walk suggested by Komoot (via Routes) here and it was fine.
It's a real pleasure trail! Magnificent landscapes that, for some, remind you of the Brackvenn Fagne on the heights of Eupen. For others, walking in the sand among the pine trees and with the sound of crickets, you could believe you were in the south of France. Especially since the many bodies of water suggest that the sea is nearby 🙃. Okay, maybe I'm dreaming a little 😔. I really had a good time. I recommend this trail
Today a cross-border walk from the well-hidden parking lot Het Plateaux, Barrier 15, Bergeijk. After a nice forest road and a cart track, where we met two orioles with telephoto lenses (big horns) at the Hoge Brug, we walk onto the open moorland of the Hageven nature reserve. We are already here in Belgium. A little further on we walk for a while on the border path with Hageven (B) on the right and De Plateaux (NL) nature reserve on the left. We pass a number of fens, the views are beautiful and we see a herd of galloways grazing. We chat for a while with two more bird watchers, with Limburgish-Flemish accent and big horns, who have "shot" a bluethroat and in the air we see a praying kestrel in the distance (Hail Mary). Then perhaps the most beautiful part of the walk, through the Dommel valley. We cross the winding Dommel a few times, but the first crossing over the suspension bridge is the most beautiful. We walk past a few lookout points and beautiful, vast ponds. Unfortunately, De Wulp visitor center is closed, but taking a pee is possible. Further on we go through a beautiful landscape, near Neerpelt, with a cherry tree avenue with a wild flower garden next to it. We continue to remain calm. Via narrow paths through small woods and between fields and along wide tree-lined avenues we return to De Plateaux. Here again great black galloways paddle and graze and a yellowhammer with a piece of cake keeps the whole neighborhood awake. After a vague encounter with a beautiful Phegea butterfly, we walk past a beautiful birch grove. A chiffchaff and a fitis provide a nice final chord of this very nice walk. The walk is a slow tour by route maker Rob Wolfs and is listed on Wandelzoekpagina.nl Greetings, Jos & Marja

Today we drove to Pelt to do the cross-border walk in the Plateaux-Hageven nature park. A very varied tour through forest, over heathland and fens. For us one of the nicer walks we have done. Highlight of the walk, the beautiful suspension bridge we encountered. To conclude, we had made reservations in the "In the wild boar" in Bergeijk. Highly recommended. When visiting, don't forget the toilets
Today another walk from my inspiration book, this time by Annemiek and Maartje. What a beautiful walk! It included everything I love: forests, babbling brooks, boardwalks, a suspension bridge, a lookout tower, heathlands, birdwatching huts, mushrooms, quiet paths, a geocache here and there, and cattle.
