Musing through Meinweg National Park – walk in silence

Today's circular walk goes 17 kilometers through the beautiful National Park Meinweg and the Roer Valley. On this border between the Netherlands and Germany, you can stroll over vast heaths, walk through beautiful forests and along clear fens and streams.

You will come across the serene heath after just 3.5 kilometers. Take a moment here to stop and enjoy the peace around you. You will find that peace again at your next highlight: a beautiful path along two natural ponds on the heath. Haven't had enough of that natural water yet? Halfway through your walk you reach a forest lake with a rest area. A perfect moment and a nice place to regain your strength for the rest of your walk.

On the way you will come across café-restaurant 'Rijstal Venhof' after about 3 kilometers. Then you walk the rest of the route through nature. I recommend you bring your own food and drinks to keep your energy up. Along the way you will find several idyllic spots for a picnic.

The walk starts at the Meinweg visitor center. You park near the car here. Before or after walking you can enjoy a drink with something delicious at brasserie 'De Boshut'. Are you coming by public transport today? Then take the train to Roermond and then walk to the Roermond bus stop, Laurentius Hospital. Here you take line 62 to Herkenbosch, Meinweg. Then it is only a four-minute walk to the start and end point of your route.
