July 11, 2022, TOUR DES ARAVIS - COLS : ROMME - COLOMBIERE - ARAVIS

From MEGEVE I leave for the TOUR des ARAVIS, i.e. the ascents of the cols de ROMME from CLUSES then the COLOMBIERE from the REPOSOIR and lastly that of the ARAVIS from the bottom of St JEAN de SIXT. To reach CLUSES I go down to SALLANCHES for 13 km. At this hour the traffic is important a truck is following me and I don't like it at all. I stop to let him pass. It is true that I am not a good descender and that I lose time in each descent. I cross SALLANCHES to take the road to the ZONE, it's quieter. At the exit I find the road of CLUSES always well circulated on these 10 km. At CLUSES I take the city center and I stop to take off my light jacket and the cuffs. Here I am at the foot of the Col de ROMME. The slope is severe over 3 km > 12%, I'm at an average pace but I'm making good progress. A little before NANGY for 300m the slope is gentler. At the exit of NANGY the slope resumes at 9.5% over 4km. I maintain my rhythm. I am alone in this ascent apart from a VAE which overtook me and which I find 2 km from the summit. I cross ROMME and pass the steep slope at the exit then it's a false flat rising and the descent on the REPOSOIR. At the REPOSOIR I'm thinking of refueling at the fountain next to the church and no luck the square has been redesigned so that the tap has disappeared. I see a faucet in the distance, I have to run the water because it is hot before the water was very cold now he let it run for a while. Once full I resume my ascent on the last 8 km of the Col de la COLOMBIERE. In the 1st part the slope is < 8% so it rolls correctly on the other hand the last 3 km are endless slope > 10%. despite my slow pace I go up many cyclists. At the top I lost 4' compared to 2020. I don't linger and I go downhill. I am overtaken by cars. In GRAND BORNAND I stop to take pictures. At the bottom of SAINT JEAN de SIXT it is the beginning of the ascent of the Col des ARAVIS. 2 cyclists are in front and I can't reach them. We are at the same speed. I cross St JEAN then I arrive at LA CLUSAZ which I pass at a walk because there is traffic. At the exit of the village I resume my rhythm, I see cyclists in the distance but I do not return to them. On the other hand I am overtaken by 2 racing cars in the last km. Now I go downhill to reach FLUMET. I cross the village and stop at the water terminal to fill a container. I take the direction of NOTRE DAME de BELLECOMBE in order to avoid the tunnel and the traffic. In this climb I am more than average. At the crossroads I go down to take the road to MEGEVE. After PRAZ sur ARLY at the height of the sawmill I take a small road which stings a little to arrive at ROCHEBRUNE on the top of MEGEVE. The outing ends with a descent and direction the sports hall. With my weakness in descent I do not go up the average.
