La Zarza y La Zarzita – circular route

... if you like hiking in the Anaga Mountains of Tenerife, you will love this round trip (or the other way around 😁): a well-maintained path winds its way (sometimes steeply uphill and then downhill again) through this magical forest 🌱🌿🌲... with the "lint roots" (to absorb the moisture from the air) that are so pretty to look at 😃... and then at the Mirador de Doña Pola... a view of the sea and the Roque de los Muchachos: 🤩!!!!! Parking was no problem at all this time... and the paths are easy to walk. 🥳

The best way to get there is to La Zarza. Also easily accessible for "normal" cars and there are plenty of parking spaces...

Short variant of the tour from La Zarza to Don Pedro, we did not descend to Don Pedro as usual but shortened a bit. Since, from our point of view, the route to Don Pedro only makes height. The best part of the round is anyway the Barranco, the Caldera de Aqua and Caboco La Catedral. Walking time 2: 30h

Following a landslide, the LaZarza Center is permanently closed (as of May 21, 2025). The path leads through a shady laurel forest, partially through a riverbed. Trees, shrubs, and deadwood are covered in moss. A mysterious half-light prevails. The trail leads through giant ferns to the base of a mighty "cathedral-like" rock formation, open at the top and surrounded by cliffs on three sides. Vines hang down in long strands. Impressively beautiful! After climbing and crossing the valley, don't miss the Mirador... the view of the sea and mountains is absolutely spectacular.

You can get to the starting point of La Zarza by bus 120 from Puntagorda in about 40 minutes for €2.60.

Very nice moderately difficult circular hike. Ideal to walk in almost any weather, especially if it's Calima, because of the deciduous forest it's pleasantly cool. In winter, after heavy rain, you have to be careful because you have to walk a short distance through water in the creek bed. But it's really only a problem after very heavy rain. But usually only for the next few days. It almost always works with good shoes. It is a pleasure in every season, as the vegetation always shows itself a little differently. In winter, when the fog drifts through the trees, it becomes really mystical. It was not without reason that some scenes for the series "The Whitcher" were filmed here. Everyone should have done this hike, for me it is one of the most beautiful on the island.

Wonderful hike starting from Parque Cultural La Zarza. The first part of the hike is simply spectacular and extremely beautiful. It goes through the so-called fairytale forest through three calderas (Coboco de Catedral, Caldera dem Agua and just Caldera). Magnificent rock faces and a beautiful forest accompany us through the gorge. After the Mirador de Doña Pola (extraordinarily beautiful view!!!) we go back to Larza. This part is not quite as spectacular but it is also beautiful and towards the end it offered us a view over the clouds.
