This route was planned by komoot.
A beautiful hike from La Calera to Arure. You climb a very steep path about 500 meters in altitude. The path is very well developed. Then you reach the plateau and already see the more than 400-year-old tree on a rocky outcrop. He must have seen Christopher Columbus afterwards. After a short break, you continue to walk steadily upwards over the plateau. The 800 meters of altitude have to come from somewhere. Great landscape, views on a clear day to El Hierro and La Palma. The valley of Valle Gran Rey, which is one of the most beautiful valleys on the island, is always in view. After a leisurely 5 hours you reach your destination, the mountain village of Arure.
In short: "Ay, un punto de vista!" – "But, as you can see, you see nothing." The weather in the mountains wanted to thwart our plans again. Only two fools got off the bus. After a short distance, the water was already in the boots, the underpants were wet too and the rain was directly passed on, up the back. It doesn't matter, after two days of relaxation I scraped my hooves inside - it just had to be.
By bus (2€) to Arure. The rest is almost self-explanatory. At the top, you can walk well with a fantastic view. Telescopic poles are recommended for the descent. There is a small shop next to the church where you can also buy chilled drinks on Sundays 😅😋
One of the most beautiful hikes: From La Playa, a steep climb to the La Merica plateau—easy to walk, but strenuous—across the plateau to Arure, with impressive views and amazing rock formations. From Arure, return by bus.
It rains mainly in the center of the island... so on the coast on the "local mountain" to the lonely tree and then over the Mérica plateau to Arure. It's always amazing how quickly you gain altitude and how the views change. From the lonely tree, wear a fleece sweater and rain jacket against the wind and raindrops across the plateau. The view is correspondingly reduced. The sun comes out for a few moments so I can take photos. Despite everything, it's always a nice route.
Today we made a big climb from our apartment on the beach via La Playa and La Calera. Scenic mountain walk above the Valle Gran Rey, with magnificent views. From La Calero a steep camino real winds up to the plateau La Mérica, which overlooks the Playa Valle Gran Rey. Further over an elongated mountain range towards Arure. In addition to a number of other hikers we also encountered about 20 goats.
