Trail Reviews

Teo Stuivenberg
May 18, 2023, Rijnstrangenpad vanuit Oud-Zevenaar

Wooden shoe path Rijnstrangenpad. Started in Oud-Zevenaar and ran clockwise. Fortunately, the path had just been mowed. I thought it was a beautiful route.

When our son goes hiking with his parents on Father's Day, it's quality time for all of us! Despite the drizzle, we're enjoying the time in nature and on the trails that @M. M. 🚶‍♂️🚲🚶‍♀️ inspired us to take! Thank you so much for that! The "Rijnstrangenpad" loop on the Lower Rhine had some really beautiful sections; unfortunately, other routes were completely overgrown in places: suggestions for names like "Expedition through the Dutch jungle" came up 😉😂! Since the loop couldn't be completed without a stop for refreshments, we'll round off the beautiful day in our favorite Greek restaurant before the celebrations, without the subsequent bridge day, are already a thing of the past. We send you our best wishes and hope you have a great time 🖖!

The Rijnstrangenpad is a 14km long circular hiking trail in the Dutch province of Gelderland, which runs across meadows, pastures and mostly near water. We extended the trail with a short detour to the town of Zevenasr to take a leisurely lunch break. The background noise on this route is a lot of croaking, twittering and clouds 🐸🦆🐏 - but unfortunately no moos 🐄😂. The cattle were not yet in the pastures that this great and varied trail took us through. We wish you a nice weekend - enjoy the weather and have a good time 🖖 The tour fills another small spot on the map of our collection of the lovely Netherlands 🇳🇱💚. https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/2061836/-liebenswerte-niederlande

Today, at Florian's invitation, I walked a round of Rijnstrangen with the inspiration network. The first tow ferry is suffering from a low water level. But if you pull hard with five or more people and stand at the very back, the front rises just enough to be able to moor more or less. The walking weather was brilliant: cool, no wind, with a bit of sun and beautiful skies. I saw many types of cows: Lakenvelders, Blaarkoppen, Charolais, Limousin, black and red pied.

The Rijnstrangenpad is a roughly 13–14 km long circular hiking trail in the Gelderse Poort region of the Netherlands, near the town of Zevenaar. The route leads through a former Rhine river basin with dikes, wetlands, and reed beds. The trail starts near Oud-Zevenaar and leads through the Gelderse Poort river landscape. After just a few minutes, it becomes clear that this hike is primarily captivating because of its scenery. The trail leads mainly along narrow paths, farm tracks, meadows, and small dikes. There are beautiful views across the flat landscape and its numerous bodies of water. You can frequently hear waterfowl or spot ducks and geese on the wetlands. Gnawed trees suggest that beavers are also present in this area. The small hand ferries used to cross the waterways are particularly interesting – an unusual experience on our hike. However, the trail was very wet or muddy in some places. Especially after rain, it quickly becomes clear why these paths are called "clog paths." 😉 After about three to four hours, you reach the starting point of the circular tour in Oud-Zevenaar again. Here, you can enjoy your "apple tart met slagroom" at the social café ("Social Foods") in Oud-Zevenaar, Kerkweg 2, after completing your hike.

A very nice tour, lots of nature and especially now with the many flowers. However, if the water level is very low, the small ferry could become a dead end if it is aground.

Instead of celebrating May Day yesterday, I got up early this morning and started on a saved route from @Jenny 👍. And I have to say: I'm still intoxicated by the tour 🇳🇱💚🥰 I've rarely experienced so much nature and variety 🥾👌. I can absolutely recommend this tour to every hiker 👍. There were also a few short paved sections, but they didn't bother me at all 😃✌️. I wish all Komooters a Happy May Day 🚲🥾. M🙋‍♂️

Today we did a tour through the Geldersche Waard near Zevenaar. Start was at the train station in Zevenaar. From there we mostly followed the Klompenpad Rijnstrangenpad. It leads through fields and river landscapes, often on small paths. In between you have to climb over fences with the help of small running boards. Apparently the path is adjusted. You should follow the current signage. In two places you use a hand ferry to get further. Unfortunately, one was not usable today because of the low water level and we had to take the path over the bridge. On the way you meet different animals 🐄 🐑 🐸 🦆 🦢🐴, but a zebra surprised us the most 🦓.
