This route was planned by komoot.
This tour is classified as a difficult road ride and demands a very good level of fitness. Cyclists should be prepared for continuous climbs and descents over its 105-kilometer length, with significant elevation gain.
The route primarily features mostly well-paved surfaces that are generally easy to ride. However, be aware that some segments might be unpaved or present challenges for road bikes. Flat sections are rare, as the tour involves constant ascents and descents through the mountainous Sette Fratelli Regional Park.
As you cycle, you'll encounter several notable points. These include the challenging Arcu e Tidu Climb, the scenic State Road 125 to the Arcu and Tidu Pass, and the historical Former prison of Castiadas. There are also various spots offering panoramic views of the diverse Sardinian landscape.
While the Sette Fratelli Regional Park is a natural area, specific regulations regarding dogs on cycling routes can vary. It's generally advisable to keep dogs on a leash in protected areas to protect wildlife and ensure safety for all users. We recommend checking with local park authorities for the most current rules regarding pets on this specific cycling route.
Typically, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required for cycling on public roads and designated routes within the Sette Fratelli Regional Park. However, it's always a good idea to verify with local park management or tourist information centers for any recent changes or specific regulations that might apply to certain areas or activities.
Given its location in Sardinia and the challenging nature of the ride, the best time to cycle this route is generally during the spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October). During these months, the weather is typically milder and more pleasant for strenuous activity, avoiding the intense heat of summer and the cooler, potentially wetter conditions of winter.
The tour starts from Fulmini di Quartu, near Quartu Sant'Elena. You can typically find parking in or around the town center or designated public parking areas. It's advisable to check local parking regulations and availability, especially during peak seasons, to ensure a smooth start to your ride.
Yes, while primarily a road cycling route, it does briefly intersect with sections of other paths. You may encounter very small portions of trails such as the Antico tracciato della Strada Reale del Sarrabus, Sentiero Italia - Tappa Z27, and SICAI Ciclo.
The route traverses a mountainous regional park, so amenities like cafes and dedicated water stops might be sparse, especially in the more remote sections. It's highly recommended to carry sufficient water and snacks for the entire 105-kilometer journey. You may find more options in the towns at the beginning or end of the route, or in smaller villages if the route passes through them.
You can expect panoramic and breathtaking landscapes throughout the Sette Fratelli Regional Park. The region offers a diverse backdrop, transitioning from a long coastline with sea views and beaches to hilly and mountainous inland areas. The ride provides an immersive experience in Sardinia's natural beauty, often described as a journey back in time.
Yes, "The tour of the Seven Brothers from Fulmini di Quartu" is designed as a circular road cycling route, meaning it starts and ends in the same general area, allowing you to return to your starting point without needing additional transport.
Nice mixed route with 2 completely opposite but spectacular landscapes
As in every holiday, a racing bike lap had to be started here. I think I've still gained the obligatory 1-2 kilos, but who cares. Roll up to Villasimius with beautiful views, wavy. Then head north along the east coast. The last 30km were the real highlight. First it goes very moderately uphill along the canyon to then have a sensational view as far as Cagliari. Even the onset of rain didn't spoil the mood. Then it went downhill very carefully because of the wetness and back to Sant Andrea. The photos only show the vastness and, above all, the gigantic canyon to a very limited extent. The fact that the sun didn't come out today was definitely an advantage for the body. 🤯😳
