Lago Acero

Highlight • Lake

A few kilometers from the town of San Vito sull'Ionio, at 850 meters above sea level, in the middle of coniferous and deciduous woods, is Lake Acero, a small artificial lake surrounded by areas equipped for picnics. It is the ideal place to spend a relaxing day and a starting point for reaching the Tyrrhenian side. Much of the outward journey coincides with path 710 "Kalabria Coast to Coast" (path that joins the Tyrrhenian coast with the Ionian coast), used by a multitude of hikers on the occasion of the annual event that the Kalabria Trekking Association of Pizzo organizes in September. Along the path you cross a beautiful beech forest, sometimes mixed with fir trees, easy to walk; after about five kilometers from the starting point, a small detour is made which allows you to visit, about 200 meters away from the main path, the "Pietra della Fata", a beautiful monolith.
