St. Barbara is a Roman Catholic branch church in Schophoven, municipality of Inden, in the district of Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia. The municipality also includes Viehöven with the chapel of St. Mariae Regine Pacis. The Church is St. Barbara von Nikomedien and was built in 1859 according to plans by the district master builder Kriescher.
A parish church in Müllenark was mentioned in the Liber valoris from around 1300. However, the traces of the village of Müllenark and its church are lost. The Müllenark house, which today belongs to Schophoven, has been preserved. In Schophoven itself, a Barbara chapel is documented for the year 1533, which belonged to the Pier parish. Schophoven became independent as a parish on March 7, 1855. On January 1, 2013, Schophoven lost its status as a parish and was merged with 13 other former parishes to form the parish of Heilig Geist Jülich.
The chapel, mentioned in the 16th century, had to be demolished in 1857. This old chapel was replaced in 1859 by today's church according to plans by the district master builder Kriescher. The Romanesque Bartholomäus chapel in Paderborn served as a model. The idea for this came from the pastor at the time, Johann Jakob Hubert Wirtz. The solemn church consecration was on June 4, 1868.
The damage of the Second World War had been repaired by 1954. Also in the 1950s, a modern baptistery was added to the tower as a rotunda.
